OSU vs. UMD

Both in honors. CS and Engineering at OSU. CS at UMD. Which has more job prospects? Which has better internship opportunities? Which provides better job placement?

UMD is much much more reputed for CS. And UMD undoubtedly has better placements than OSU, atleast for Computer Science.

What is the difference in cost for you?

What part of the country would you prefer to begin your career in?

I’m a big fan of UMD, but consider also that OSU is one hot sports campus these days and UMD is less so. The school spirit at OSU is also higher in my estimation. If these things and money make no difference, UMD is a great CS program. Both would serve you well, however.

@happymomof1‌ @ISayHelloWorld‌ same price due to scholarships and aid, btw i am in College of Engineering at OSU, whereas I’m in arts and sciences at UMD, if that makes a diff.

Well, if you want engineering then you need to head to OSU. You do not want to have to try to transfer into engineering from arts & sciences at UMD.

You’re looking at two different things. If you want engineering, then OSU. If you want CS, then UMD.

It would appear that it would be helpful if you could decide now whether you want engineering or CS. The one will deal mostly with hardware and the latter with software. If you want the latter, perhaps UMD is the better choice. If you want the hardware option then only OSU will do.

You don’t need engineering for CS, and CS at UMD is HIGHLY thought-of, very well-funded, with lots of extremely skilled students and professors. In short, CS at UMD is much better than CS at tOSU.
However, if you want engineering rather than CS (not the same thing), tOSU is the better choice because it’s hard to transfer from another college into the COE.

@jkeil911‌ @TheDidactic‌ but at OSU, to take CS, you have to take Computer Science and Engineering. So I’m thinking it might be like a 2 in 1 deal? idk

It may be.

Print out the degree requirements for majors in CS and the engineering field that you are interested in at OSU, and see how much common ground there is.

They’re not the same. Some classes will be common, but junior and senior years are likely to be very different.
To simplify, if your goal is to create the next Ipad, go CSE, if your goal is to create the next Twitter, go CS.

@MYOS1634‌ Ohh okay, but what I’m saying is that can’t I get CS jobs with a “comp sci and engineering” degree at OSU? since its still computer science. Its the main CS major you can take at OSU.
