I am having lots of trouble deciding between the following colleges for Aero Engineering. I just visited Purdue and didn't really like it. My family can pay about 30k a year, the rest would be loans for me.

Ohio State - Honors Program, Eminence Fellow (full cost of attendance ride, 3k for research, and "unique" internship opportunities)

UMich - Offered $45k total scholarship, would cost about 40k a year, loved the campus, great engineering program

Virginia Tech - Accepted into Honors Program, with scholarships would cost about 22k a year

I am in state for Ohio State, in fact I live about ten minutes away from the University. My only qualm with OSU is that so many of the people from my high school go there, and I am not sure of the quality of the aerospace program, or engineering program as a whole. Please share any insight! Thanks!

Virginia Tech’s aerospace is pretty similar to Ohio State’s. University of Michigan is a notch above. Looks like you will be in 40k loans if you attend UM and 0 if you attend OSU. I don’t see any reason to pay 22k year and attend VT. I say the education difference between OSU and UM is worth the price difference.

I am also now including Notre Dame in the mix, but I have not gotten their financial aid package yet.

If you wish to get away from home, VT seems like a reasonable option. Engineering will be rigorous at any school, and all of the schools on your list have good programs.

If you don’t care about distance from home, go to OSU. It’s a very good school with plentiful research. Also, unless you make the effort, you won’t have to ever talk with your high school classmates. That’s just the nature of going to a school with tens of thousands of people.

Its just that in a field, engineering, where school rank is so highly considered, is OSU viewed as a good engineering school? or an up and coming one?
