Other Colleges

After receiving an appointment, did any of you continue looking at Civilian Schools? Just to make sure you made the right decision?

Speaking for my son only, once he received his appointment he was finished looking at civilian colleges. If you have any doubts however, I would suggest that you schedule visits with those colleges you are most interested in... overnight visits if possible...
best of luck.

My son did not have doubts, but he did not visit any other schools, he was sold in Oct when he visited, The doubts are mine, as attending USMMA would be life changing. And only 2 weeks after High School Graduation...WOW!

Rants, coming out of high school is life changing no matter what. Even if they go on to civy colleges. Poor kids are thrown out there and forced to do something with their lives. You can only hope that the choices they make are the right ones for them and that they succeed in their goals, hopes & dreams. As parents, we always want that for them. Its tough. My son did visit two other schools where he was accepted but when the appointment came, those schools weren't allowed to be mentioned in the house. He, like your son, had no doubts. He is happy with his decision but there have been days when I think he would love to go to pieces and run through the halls screaming like a mad man. Heck, I do that at my work on occassion. You're not alone in your feelings of apprehension. Feel free to vent here. We do! :)

HI Rants...ditto to what Jamzmom wrote.

I remember feeling very overwhelmed the entire year of his applying, visits, interviews, DOMERB, remedials!!!!!!!!! Then once the "Logging IN" book arrived and the paper work, finger printing, passport application, underwear shopping (LOL) etc. that ensued just made me feel even more overwhelmed!!!

Yes, you are so right, is it "life changing" not just for your son but the family as well; but somehow, it all works out. ( I pray a lot!)

You may know this...your son can apply for his passport at the Post Office, where they do the photo too. Just go on-line to see which branch handles this.

I envy all of you who have found this forum during the whole admission process. As I posted before, I did not discover this site until my son was well into INDOC.

Agree! overwhelming! He is accepted at the civilian colleges he applied, and has not visited, he is being called nightly by coaches, and I think he is flattered obviously, but not quite sure he wants to visit. I have encouraged him to visit at least ONE to confirm his decision, so in August he isn't saying "I wish I would have" Still might but would have visited so the regrets would be less.

Rants I agree with you...I would strongly encourage him to visit then. Believe me there will be plenty of doubts, I would guess that at least 90% of plebes at all the academies go through a dark time, especially in their first year.
