Other sources of aid.

I desperately need to transfer out of my current university, but my problem is, my parents won't even let me try applying if the schools I choose won't offer scholarships or financial assistance to international undergraduates.

I've tried searching through various websites but all I got were irrelevant results. Most of these websites aren't even updated.

Has anyone here been in the same boat? What non-institutional and non-merit aid do you guys have now?

I don't have exceptional high school grades, just above average ones that look even worse with the insane grade deflation in my high school. I'm a freshman at the moment, and I'm expecting a GPA of about 3.3 to 3.4 for this semester. I'm planning to retake the SATs, aiming for a score of 650 to 700 for each test.

I don't think I can qualify for anything that involves academic or athletic achievement. Writing is my best skill though.

I hope the above information helps. Thanks.

I am afraid that there are no scholarships that are institutionally independent, not too competitive AND award a significant amount of money.

Let's approach it from a different angle: How much would you be willing and able to spend for tuition, room and board?

Right now, I'm paying about $10,000 for those. My international scholarship paid half of the expenses. Based on my searches, it's going to be near impossible to come close that bargain.

I think my best bet is to go for LACs, but then again, I'm sadly limited to very few states. (FL, GA and NC where I have relatives)
