I'm just curious how other transfer students are doing here. Are you having fun? Making good friends? Learning a lot? Would you do it again?

I can’t answer for myself because I’m not a transfer student. But I just wanna throw it out there that I’m friends with a transfer student, and this is gonna be his 2nd semester. We think of each other as both being “equally new” since we came in at the same time. He’s having the TIME OF HIS LIFE. I totally envy him, lol, he knows so many people, goes out every weekend, and still gets a crapload of work done.

Again, I’m jealous xD

But yeah, I hope all the transfers are having a good time here! :)

That’s really great! I asked this question because I and most transfers whom I know within my major are having the opposite experience of what you described. I hope that this isn’t a common problem and that most people are having a blast!
Maybe I’m just in an anti-social major.
Where did your friend meet most of his new buddies?

Don’t worry; I’m a first year (fall admit) and my experience is probably very similar to yours. I’m technically undeclared, so I can’t really blame my major, lol, so I’m probably (read: practically) just really either anti-social or way too introverted. I dunno. My floormates really keep to themselves, and I took classes with 150, 300, and 700+ students, so that wasn’t too good for finding people.
My friend is just really social and his first week in, he already started attending a LOT of organizations. He’s part of four that I can think of, and he already has leadership positions in all of them. That’s a little excessive, though, lol. I’m just really envious of how social/cool/extroverted he is. We met through an org. that we’re both a part of.

And aww, can I ask what’s making it a not-good time?

I just moved in and my roomies are both junior transfers but are complete opposite. One is having an awesome time and has tons of friends (freshmen though) and parties on weekends. The other is having a real hard time being social and is trying now but feels weird since it’s the second half of the year. She tends to stay in the room…and is practically nocturnal…haha it really depends.

Transfer here and everything is peachy. If you push yourself out of your comfort zone a little, you can have all the friends you need. Classes went great, and I’m fortunate enough to be having a good summer recruiting season - although the majority of transfers I know are having a difficult time.

First semester kinda sucked. Was getting used to college life and didnt meet too many people. Had antisocial friends who transferred with me and they didnt meet too many people either. This semester finally joined some good organizations and I’m meeting a ton of people although I have much to improve in terms of social life. Classes have been good for me.

Berkeley is great though definitely great, except haas.

@ucbhaas, can you tell me more on what you mean?

Maybe it’s just me but I am not very fond of the atmosphere at Haas including the attitude of some of the students at haas, very competitive (nothing wrong with competition unless you’re out to get other students) and ****** attitudes (no wonder they call us haasholes), in addition I also realized that a lot of continuing students at haas look down on haas transfer students. However, whenever I take classes outside of Haas, both the student body and atmosphere are completely different. I think that the new curve implemented at haas has created an unpleasant environment of competition.
