Are the acceptance numbers still 8..4 guys/4 girls??..and also is this march 4th audition the last audition for otterbein??

Theatrejock:

Yes, and yes. We're looking for 4 men and 4 women in Musical Theatre, 4 men and 4 women in Acting. March 4 is our last audition date.

One thing to clarify: students auditioning for MT will also be considered for the BFA in Acting, the BA in Theatre, the BA and BME in Music, and the Dance Minor. No additional audition is necessary, but it is helpful for us to know that someone would be open to such an offer. That's one of the reasons why the afternoon interview is so important to us.

Especially gifted vocalists may also be invited back to audition for the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, if they're interested in being considered.

Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing you next Saturday.

Thank you for the reply doctorjohn...looking forward to auditioning for you this weekend!

TheatreJock, break a leg on Saturday. We're actually going to be on campus for an admitted students day, so I'll be nearby and thinking of you...and keeping all appendages crossed!

Congrats mezzomom on your daughters acceptance into the music program...and thank you for the support. i will let you know how i think it went probably saturday night..enjoy your visit.

While my daughter didn't get accepted into the MT program, and was disappointed, of course, I want you to know she learned a great deal from her first college audition and has gone on to be accepted into other programs. And to all of you who will be in this program next year, My D's best friend is an acting major at Otterbein and is so happy with her life. You are very fortunate to be able to go to a school that is able to combine great training with great heart.

DrJohn, your great posts have made my d very interested in the Acting bfa there so she will be applying! We hear about so few schools in Los Angeles so I was thrilled to read all of the great posts about Otterbein! And my old high school music teacher, Bob Holmes (deceased) was an alum who raved about the school so clearly it has just continued to be great!

Dduellman: Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad that your daughter felt she learned something from our audition, and that it helped her in the rest of the process.

Travellinghopefully: I look forward to meeting you and your daughter!

Best wishes to you both.

doctorjohn,
I've noticed on other threads that schools are beginning to announce their 2006-2007 season. When will Otterbein announce the showsthey are doing next year?
Thank-you,

MTaussie

doctorjohn, we look forward to meeting you too! I will actually be in Columbus in June and am doing a walk on visit of your school. My d will be at CMU so she won't be there but I am very excited about seeing Otterbein!

We visited Otterbein during spring break and I have been reluctant to post - now that I have been "let in" on this fairly well-kept secret, I don't want to share it!

Travellinghopefully - you will love the campus! It is small and beautiful and "uptown" Westerville is charming and literally right next door. The students, faculty and staff we met were all so friendly. We had a great visit and my daughter could definitely picture herself there (of course, there is that small hurdle of getting accepted!)

We had the opportunity to see a rehearsal of 42nd Street and it is going to be an amazing show! Incredible singing, acting and tap dancing! The choreographer and the director from the Broadway revival are involved with the production (correct me if I'm wrong, Dr. John!) They're using the original choreography and it is very impressive! The show runs May 17th through the 27th - if you are in the area, go see it! And if not, go see it anyway - it would definitely be worth the trip.

MTmama, I wish I could see it, sounds fantastic! Unfortunately I am going to be there at the end of June after dropping my d at CMU precoolege drama. But we did a big east coast trip so I have a good sense of what she likes and doesn't like. I will be staying in Columbus and driving up Monday. I don't know if even summer school is in session but at least I can see the campus and environs! Turns out she wants to be close to a city....so this sounds great!

My S will be making an OC visit in June as well, just before the CMU pre-college program starts. We'll be there Wed. 6/ 21 for a tour and admissions interview.

Glad to have this school on the college list right now. It wasn't there earlier in our search because I erroneously thought that OC academics were too far out of reach. But another CC Mom set me straight. Now looking back on it, I think I was looking at Oberlin's stats by mistake. An easy mistake right ("O" schools in Ohio)???? I'm still LOL.

MTMama:

42nd Street is indeed being directed and choreographed by Randy Skinner, who was nominated for a Tony Award for the 2001 revival. His team, including assistant choreographer Kelli Barclay and production stage manager Tripp Phillips, were on campus for three weeks at the beginning of the term, teaching the production to our students as if they were a new touring company. They taught them the original choreography and blocking. Our kids have been pretty much on their own for the last three weeks, rehearsing and polishing under the watchful eye of two of our seniors. Kelli comes back on Thursday for the move into the theatre and for techs next week. Tripp and Randy will be here for dress rehearsals. I've dropped in on several rehearsals, and I think it's going to be a terrific production. It's in the newly-named Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, our 1000-seat proscenium house.

ElliotsMom:

Although we have no summer classes, please plan on attending the final dress rehearsal of Harvey, our Summer Theatre opening production, on Wednesday night. You and your son will be able to talk to some of the cast members after the performance. Write to me privately and I'll see about reserving tickets. Travellinghopefully, you too, if you're in town while the show is running, June 22-July 8.

The rest of the summer season, for those interested, is Father Joy by Sheri Wilner, which premiered last summer at the Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, July 13-22, and The 1940's Radio Hour, a wonderful little musical, July 27-August 12. The summer shows take place in the Pit, a 240-seat black box in the basement of our Campus Center.

And, oh yes, we're not Oberlin. They have a wonderful college and music conservatory up near Cleveland. We're in Columbus. I made exactly the same mistake the first time I heard about Otterbein.

I will be in Columbus June 25, 26 and 27th. Is there a Sunday matinee? I will be staying with a very old friend who is a professor at Ohio State and I am sure she would be interested! Thanks. BTW couldn't send you a private message...

We have a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, June 25. No performances on Monday and Tuesday, unfortunately. I don't have private messaging turned on, but anyone can send an e-mail to me at school. Click on my name for contact information.

Thanks!

Just saw 42nd St with my D after the campus visit day today. Great show and very talented cast. She will be auditioning Dec 1st for the MT Dept. Seems like a long time from now, but it will sneak up quickly!

artfamily, just wondering how you already have an audition date. My d is interested in the nonmusical theater drama program but I haven't seen anything about setting them up...
