hey, i was just wonderin what sorta place athens is... does the place have a southern or midwestern feel? by the way, how rural is the area? is there a wal-mart around?

There IS a WalMart in Athens. . .

OU pretty much dominates the economy of Athens. The area around Athens isn't quite southern or midwestern, it's Appalachian, very rural, very beautiful.

OU is a hidden gem. It was the nicest campus we visited and had the best honors program--Honors Tutorial College. In this program, you take classes in your major one-on-one with the professor. You can take graduate classes, waive prerequisites for other upper level classes, and are exempt from general ed. requirements--the flexibility in classes is amazing. In the Honors Tutorial dorm, you can have a single as a freshman with AC, computer and printer. Athens is beautiful and everyone was so down to earth and friendly. With 16,000 undergrads, the college is like a city itself blending in with Athens. So, it is rural but has the size and activity level that does not lend itself to being isolated and small town (like Kenyon).

I agree - even if you aren't in the Honors Tutorial College, the class sizes are quite small with only 16,000 students. It's a ** beautiful ** campus and you won't find friendlier people!

yea like they said beautiful campus and fun and friendly people. Students are also quite diverse in personality and interests. There is a Wal-mart and everything you will ever need can be found on one of two streets. Townies are on campus alot but they are generally cool too so no problems except lots of high school girls running around trying to get into parties
