I have heard great things about both schools. I am hoping to apply to be a MT major after I graduate high school, but I've always wondered which program is better. HELP PLEASE!

Both programs are very competitive to get into, although I’d imagine, based purely on its greater name recognition and more stereotypical university experience, that OU would be the more applied to MT school of the two. The programs may have different philosophies regarding performance, training, etc that would cause you to enjoy one over the other. The Weitzenhoffer School considers itself a conservatory, and from what a theatre major was telling me yesterday, the MT students are extremely close with one another (no surprise there). We were also recently ranked as one of the best dance programs in the country which may affect your physical training. For further information on the competing philosophies of the universities, I’d contact the programs directly. Here’s a link to OU’s MT contact info [Contact - Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre](<a href=“Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre”>Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre)

If you get into both programs, I’d recommend touring both campuses. One is a small regional private while the other is a huge state flagship. However, they’re only 35 minutes away from one another, so it’s certainly possible to hit up both in one day. As someone who transferred to OU from a much smaller school partially because of fit issues, I’ll assure you, the size of the school can make a difference. You may find you prefer OCU. Great, go there. If you discover a love for OU, well welcome in advance to the Sooner family. The point is, there’s no definitive better program of the two, it’s whatever would best fit your academic, social, and career goals (not that MT is an easy field to break into).
