I really miss being able to easily tell what are new, unread entries vs. what I had previously read. The highlighting of new material is no longer done? What a shame if this is the case…
I read the first page of this, then the last so skipped the 10 pages in between, but just wanted to mention I’m going to be off this forum totally when not on Wifi and I’m usually not on Wifi. Running ads takes too much data for me at home. I could love the new format (I don’t - I despise it), and I still wouldn’t be able to look at it when I’m at home or when we travel without Wifi.
Since my kids are grown and out of college with just a little bit of med school left… seriously don’t think I’ll be sticking around with this format. No “person” or “debate” drove me off - just the new format. I find it really tough to think anyone prefers it, but it takes all types I suppose.
I’ll hang on for a couple of days to see if anything changes, but if not, I still offer my best wishes to everyone with college, with life, with “whatever!”
The new format sucks . ?
I. Do. Not. Like. It.
Way, waaaaay too much white space CC. Where’s the birdseye view of threads? I’m already tired of scrolling. What happened to the short list of popular forums that used to be on the left hand side of the screen? I just figured out that now a black dot next to a thread in my bookmarks means there are new comments. I assume there is a place to log all these issues. Whoever finds it first, report back so we don’t abuse this thread.
ETA: Looks like you have to go back to the Home page to get access to the most popular sub forums. Just ugh.
And who cares who is the most active user this month (no offense to @doschicos)? Double ugh.
The “most active posters” reminds me of that terrible and dumped “feature” a few years back…something with little green popularity squares or something?
I’ve browsed some more…and the font and size of the posts…I find myself not having the patience to scroll and scroll and scroll to get to other threads. It has always been my habit to check the first and maybe the second page of posts - I’m not going to scroll endlessly to get to threads. Sounds silly I know, but most people want their internet time to be efficient.
I also don’t like that on pages you seem to have less posts - so if I want to see read a post from a few minutes ago I have to go back a page very frequently - another example of not having the patience to do this .
I’m so lost. I usually go to my favorite colleges and look at the new topics then pick what I want. I have no idea how to do that now or if it can be done at all. I feel so disconnected from everyone and everything. I hope this upcoming college admission cycle isn’t going to be like this?
@jym626 If a site won’t let you see it because you are using an ad blocker, you can usually tell your ad blocker to show ads on just that site with a click or two.
I somehow briefly had access to the “old” (as in yesterday’s) format and thought maybe you’d come to your senses, cc, and put it back!! Loved for a brief moment seeing all the threads I’d hoped to see, in one place. Then, alas… I clicked on something, and poof into this new alternative universe. Beam me up, Scottie.
@vonlost, about 90% of the time, when I disable the ad blocker on a site and hit refresh, it doesn’t work - the site is still blocked. USA Today is an example of that. It’s very frustrating.
A few minutes of the new format was plenty for me - switching back to computer games. I’ll check in a little the next couple of days to see if there are changes, but if this is the new normal, all I can say is best wishes to everyone. I’ll be moving on. I’d have never stayed 10 years ago if this had been what I’d come across. It’s way too hard to see things, and then I’d still have data issues with the video ads. If it works for others, enjoy!
Vent complete.
@vonlost— see what? I don’t follow. I just installed the ad blocker on my computer, and I am currently on my ipad. Don’t think my ipad is running on chrome (and I see an ad to the right, just thank heavens not that awful video ad).
Like a lot of others , I’m out. Guess I’ll get more done at home . I’ll miss reading it on my work break too, but this format is horrible .
Looks like I’m demoted in this new format. I used to be a junior level member. Now I’m just a member. That doesn’t feel good.
Far too much white space, and a font that only non-readers would have reason to admire.
I have a question, and I can’t tell if it has been asked earlier in this so-far 13 page thread. Can I change my avatar picture? When I go to change the picture, it gives me the option to delete my current picture, but I can only add one of several generic geometric avatars. I don’t see any way to upload my own picture to change. oops! Just found it! How to Change Profile Picture

@taskmstrx, why are you a junior member and I’m not? I have more posts and replies than you do. Wow this is not good.
@neonpinklime member is a higher level than junior member.
@Creekland: I may be heading out the door with you. Life is too short. When our son graduated last month, I said goodbye to serviceacademyforums.com. This format seems a good reason for me to move out of virtual space. Like others, I’ll check back here in a week or so to see if there are improvements. Otherwise, back to my books, my kitchen, my crochet projects, and friends I can touch.
Can’t find the forums that I often frequent. Ad is visually distracting.
