Our Fresh New Look Is Here

Hey, my post showed up in normal font! Why???

My eyes are used to having a black background. Word and recently apply Mac IOS did. IS there a way have it that way? Even Reddit has it as well. I’m sure everyone on CC will like that option.

As someone on the list. It appears it is points for responses. Not activity. lol.

I don’t mind the double spacing in replies or the font etc.

However the navigation, bookmarking and scrolling is not an improvement at all.

Also, not sure if it is my phone or just lucky. But it doesn’t have any of the ad streaming being discussed or incredible amounts of white space. Don’t own a computer or iPad so can’t speak to that experience at all.

I did find writing this was I less apt to typos.

One more observation. As you scroll in an iPhone to get to the bottom of the thread the page bounces around. It’s a little disorienting.

@privatebanker , it’s called most active, and you get points for activity. So it seems logical to assume you you’ve spent a lot more time in CC recently than anyone who isn’t on that list?

I am using a Chrome browser and the new design is unusable. Especially now there is a floating video constantly playing. Can anyone recommend a video / pop-up blocker for Chrome that would make this forum usable again?

Just finally got on to CC from my mobile. This is horrible!!! I can barely see one response on my screen. I also wasn’t able to scroll down to see my notifications. Only the first few and no obvious way to see the others.

If this doesn’t get resolved I will be leaving too. Not worth the time to navigate a user unfriendly site.

Awful. What a design train wreck this is!

I’m assuming there is something funky in that algorithm since all the “Most Active” posters have default avatars, and no moderator is on the most active list.

I’m going to bed. Perhaps when I awake, this day will all have been just a bad dream. :naughty:

@momofsenior1 if you press gently and hold you can scroll your notifications! it works for me.

@nypapa – I use uBlock Origin on Chrome. (And I do not see any ads at all, so it works).

@Lindagaf

It’s based on points. The only points I can see are those registered for responses to a post. Not total posts or times on the board.

So misnamed perhaps. But @doschicos has a lot of people agreeing or liking her advice. I don’t see that as a fatal flaw.

It’s a bit meaningless in the design and probably geared to the “amount of likes” generation.

@calmom you are the best! I installed ublock origin on Chrome and VOILA! NO ADS! so much better. No more annoying videos! Thank you!

It’s still not letting me scroll down past the first 6 notifications. When I logged in it said I had 19.

As unfriendly as the re-design is to us old-timers, we at least know what forums we can not find. How is a newcomer to realize what CC forums offer without a master list of forums? Additionally, there is nothing intuitive or obvious about how forums are assigned to categories. Forfeiting both the “regulars” and potential new members is the death of a website. An obvious list is imperative. Work arounds? Really? If they aren’t temporary, we are in trouble here.

I do have a sense that this will be forever known as The CC “New Coke” incident.

The “Most Helpful in This Category” tag (which doesn’t seem to change regardless of the category?) does seem to be driven by a total of “points” given for a combo of “Likes”, “Agrees”, and “Helpfuls”. I agree it is a silly measure to highlight as I doubt most of us are motivated by any of those. Agree it should be removed for that reason.

Not sure what is driving “most active”. Agree that his “feature” is unnecessary as well and probably not in the website’s best interests.

@skieurope , yes, you ARE on the most active list.

That’s understandable. It’s understandable for any of us, but it’s not something any of us wants to be reminded of. We’re here to help, not rack up points for being busiest on CC. It reminds me of the Avril Levigne video thing, when kids tried to get it up to a billion views or something. Yeah, we’re here to help kids, but we don’t want to be treated like kids.

I wonder what younger people think of the update? I would bet they like it. We had a major overhaul of my school’s website late last year, and I hate it. Way too much white space. But the feedback from students and prospective students has been extremely positive. Generational differences, perhaps?

It’s hurting my eyes after just a short time and I can’t find the sub forums. I’m praying it’s better on my computer.

I’m ok with it for a laptop, but on the phone the formatting is quite bad. Hopefully there will be a mobile version soon.
