Our Fresh New Look Is Here

I find it pretty annoying when websites tell me how they’ve improved my experience, especially when whoever wrote it clearly has no idea what they’re talking about. There are so many things wrong with this update.

The first sentence of this reply takes up 1-1/4" x 2" of my Android screen space. The first 2 sentences take up the entire screen.

If I try to scroll to the bottom of a thread the screen whips past the end of the thread to a bunch of stuff I don’t want. Then I have to slog back to try to find where I left off.

I can’t navigate a thread easily at all. To get back to page 1 of this thread from page 17 I had to go one page at a time.

The amount of white space is horrible.

The double spacing in the reply box looks awful and makes it difficult to use. It might be fine for short responses. Questions about financial aid and other important topics are rarely short responses.

Leaderboards are a waste of space.

Each post on my screen takes up 7/8" of vertical space. That’s a waste of space too.

I have no interest in browsing featured threads or articles by experts. I have less interest in obtrusive videos, especially if they start using up my data.

The featured discussions I see are from 2014 and 2015. If I were a first time visitor I’d assume the site was no longer active.

If the new changes are kept, maybe it won’t be.

I’m just getting my first look now - very disappointed. I appreciate the fact that sometimes it’s just a matter of getting used to something but this is awful. The ads take up a third of my screen, are in constant motion - too annoying for words. My other gripe is that I can see so few threads in the forums now. I used to be able to scan most of a screen’s-worth without having to scroll. This is too much work. I like the larger sign in icon and that’s about it. This new format will keep me away.

Will CC consider any further changes?

Is the person who made this new design a 14 year old? Not trying to be rude but at least you should have given us a chance to give us a beta version. Beta version will help fix these issues like too much white spacing and such.

I am with everyone else. Really hate this. Maybe it’s just hard to adjust to change but way too much scrolling and too hard to see the few forums that I want see. And hard to see at a glance which threads have new posts.

I see no tool, either. On cell and tablet, Android, Chrome,
Before I posted this, I checked. I came back to see
not all my draft was saved.
I feel like this is a game: who can figure out the info tree.

But yeah, the emojis are clear.

Hate this. The old version was MUCH easier to read. More condensed. Could see much more info on my screen at once. GO BACK!!!

Since the site seems to be directed at/designed by the 20somethings, thought maybe gifs might now be allowed. Nope. Too bad. I had a good one picked out for this thread

Yup. Same complaints here.

And where would save drafts even be? I don’t see anyplace for those either. I’m not going to post this just to see if it gets auto saved…someplace. Assuming of course that I can find that someplace.

OK…I waited and waited…and this never saved as a draft…or if it did…I had no way of knowing.

As an FYI…on the thread page numbers…oddly, I have numbers…

And I have no video…or ads…and I don’t have Adblock.

This is really an odd redo.

Reductio ad Absurdum is an argumentation fallacy,

but

is

more

white

space

really

better?

If some of you don’t want to install an ad blocker, consider switching your web browser to Brave. It has a built in ad blocker so no need to download anything else. I’ve been using it for a while now and really like it - I won’t use Chrome anymore as it collects far too much information about browsing habits which it then ships off to Google.

adding my voice to the chorus–who thought this was an improvement? …Too much white/wasted space; too much scrolling; too much work to find what used to be fairly easily accessed. I’ll check back in a few days for improvements. I’d hate to lose this valuable forum, but…my time in valuable too…

And only 15 posts per page? So the thread quickly gets too long and comments get repeated over and over because they appeared on previous pages. Ugh.

@SyrAlum - chrome doesn’t ship its info off to google— it IS google.

Would it really be that hard to give laptop/desktop users the option to view the old layout again?

Sorry to say, I’m not liking the new format at all. This change will cause me to visit the CC site much less often. Harder to use. Did CC PAY for these changes or was it cheaply crowd-sourced?

If I go to the 3 bars, click Bookmarks, read gosmom’s post and then I click the back button on my cell, rather than where I was (Bookmarks,) it takes me to My Threads.
So, I can go to the 3 bars, click bookmarks and start again
Those extra steps are not an improved experience.
Just sheesh.
And we’re mostly tech literate folks here.
We’re discovering the flaws the paid sw developers should have. I think some of us want a hoodie, not a zip sweatshirt, lol. Hopefully, with the CC logo as teeny as the new font. Lol.

Adding: no notifications icon, if in a thread, on cell. Or did I already say that?

This is terrible. Hard to read font, wasted white space, difficult to navigate.

I’m sorry, but I think this is terrible. I feel as though you were trying to go for an aesthetic “modern” look, but you sacrificed functionality and intuitiveness. The font is huge, there is soo much white space, and one single post takes up my entire phone screen. I’m a mobile user. There is no longer a quick shortcut bar at the bottom of my screen, so I have to either scroll all the way up or down to look for my bookmarks, which reloads a new page instead of conveniently opening up a list of options on the same screen as it was before. Not mobile friendly at all. I have to scroll up a ton on my phone just to see the top of my post that I’m typing. Any chance you would revert these changes since no one here seems to like it?

Good bye
