Our Fresh New Look Is Here

“If something ain’t broke, why try to fix it?”

I have absolutely no problem with continually improving something that already works. Ford didn’t build the Model T and say “that’s good, let’s just build this forever”. Steve Jobs didn’t say “we sold a lot of first-gen iPhones, so let’s not try to improve it”

The popular saying is completely wrong, imho.

I have no issue with change and improvement. The problem isn’t that they tried to improve the site, it’s that they failed miserably

And yes, Parents Forum is right where it should be - Home => College Admissions and Search => Parent’s Forum. It’s just a lot of scrolling to get to, as with everything else.

I really do not like this at all. I remember when Parentsoup went defunct after their last roll out as it was so user-unfriendly. The light letters, hard to see at a snapshot each discussion, lots of scrolling.

The list of bookmarked threads, of latest threads, etc, is almost unreadable on Android.
Everything appears double spaced. Too much details for a list. All the details don’t fit on the screen so the list of threads is on the left in double spaced tiny characters and the full details are on a line triple the width of that column.
The little sympvols (agree, likew helpful…) Are way too big and take up two lines on screen for each thread.
On the other hand, the 1…20 >> symbols are tiny and hard to see.
" Save comment" is bigger and clearer.

Why is there a huge basketball next to most names?

I’ve been on it for 15 minutes now and the thin font with all the white is making my eyes weary.

On mobile phones, you could scroll down and have a little menu that allowed you to go straight to the bookmarked menu. This doesn’t appear anymore.

I’ll pile on. This design is horrendous. It’s unintuitive to navigate, and difficult to read. There’s a ridiculous amount of white space. And as I’m typing this I see that it is double-spacing in the reply box. What is the point of that? And there still isn’t a way to subscribe to a forum.

The ads are so distracting and huge now that it is difficult to look at the posts. There is a video in the upper right corner that I can mute but can’t seem to stop. It makes it really hard to read this forum. Please make changes immediately. You’ve ruined a good site.

This new interface appears to universally detested. All softwares need to be beta-tested for a good reason. Also, unless you were Steve Job, a good practice would be to give users an option to try out a new interface and see how it goes before forced migration to the new interface enmass.

Yes - for Classic Version idea … I’ve only read a page of comments … all on point so won’t repeat.

WHY do I have to LOG IN? Apologies if this has been mentioned.
I TRULY APPRECIATE all the threads that I read. Everyone is exceptional - caring, helpful, supportive. Seldom do I have something even half as exceptional or interesting to contribute.

The video. Seriously. If there is no way to make it stop playing, there is no way I can continue using CC.

@MYOS1634, Is the default avatar a basketball? On my phone it looks like a shot (from the rear, as it were) of a woman who’s diving into a pool. (Picture those garden signs of a woman bending over weeding). Not at all attractive. Anyone who’s ever been to a swim meet can imagine what I’m talking about.

On the topic of video, do any of you have AdBlock as a browser extension? I see no video but I assume my AdBlock is blocking it.

Not crazy about the font - way too hard for my aging eyes to read! But the biggest issue I have is with the megathreads. I used to be able to click on the last page, but am now forced to go to the first page, scroll down, then select the last page.

Like many, not a big fan of the video playing and all the adds but if its needed to keep this site free then I can live with it. I do think the font is to thin with such a bright white background it does make the font hard to read over time. I don’t mind the layout as much now that I’ve been on a few times. I do find it easier when i use my iPad versus my Desktop to use the site from a visibility aspect.

I will chime in with my disgust and dismay for the changes. What overpaid committee decided that they could improve this site. Why not start a thread and ask what people like and dislike about the functionality of the site? I wonder what all of the “geniuses” who designed the changes think of our responses. I have not seen any positives – at all.

@CCadmin_Sorin - here’s a specific example of how this is off-putting, and would be off-putting to me if I were here for the first time. I am on a desktop.

NEW posts are what gets new clicks, right? not older outdated posts (although they are very helpful) YOU need to show WAY more posts per page to not discourage your readers.

On the scholarships and financial aid page; for years there have been closed, locked, stickied important FAQs, etc. posts. In the past there were about 10 of them, you could see them all at once, and then see what the new posts were.

Now, when entering that page, I see posts that are all old with dates from 2014. 2015, 2017, some with last comment from 2018. I have to scroll five or six pages down to get to anything new.

I know they have good info that’s still slightly relevant. HOWEVER if I were there for the first time, I’d think this was all OLD and out of date; I probably wouldn’t scroll down to see anything new. I’d leave.

THATS because on the desktop there are only a few posts showing at one. How are you supposed to get more clicks if you don’t give options??? or show more?

Here is a breakdown of my screen as I type this. THERE IS NO ENTICEMENT FOR ME TO CLICK elsewhere. 9x18 inch window; Left side: 3x9 inches ALL WHITE 17 % of screen is BLANK…

FORUM BOX – 7.5 x 9; 42 PERCENT is for forum type.

RIGHT SIDE 42% again is blank, with a repeating video ad at the top.

If you want more clicks, and more people to see what’s going on and not be turned off by old posts, and get tired of scrolling down down down, you will need to eliminate the white space, have the posts run horizontally and show more per page.

I haven’t read all the posts, but I think disliking a new format of anything is almost always the immediate reaction. Let’s give it a chance. I will get used to this new format eventually, but I used to see the list of latest posts and be able to go to the very last page of a post to get caught up. Now I have to open the thread and then go to last. Just one more click, but…

Piling on…the forums are truly unusable. Unless there is some way to choose/revert to the old version, I cannot see myself continuing to come here and struggling to find the very helpful information I have come to this site for in the past. This makes me sad and frustrated…did any users actually ask for these changes?

Notifications do not show up unless you go into your profile. Prior to this latest upgrade, I would see my notifications/alerts when I login to CC. Now I login to CC and it appears there are not notifications, but when I click on the notification/alert bell I go into my profile and there I see that I have notifications/alerts. This needs to change because what is the point of a notification if you can’t see that you have one when you login?
