Out of state Admissions for UVA and W+M

Compared to the out of state admissions for William and Mary, How difficult is it to get into UVA out of state?

i was wondering about the same subject and especially how it applies to out of state females.

Well my brother just got rejected from William and Mary: 3.65, 1400, 740/740/740.

Anyone else please?

Female, WAITLISTED at W & M, 1430, 760/740/700 , 3.8 UW, top 5%

My son got in to W&M last year from Texas. 1380/800/740/620 3.9, top 2%

He did not apply to UVA, although he would have been a triple legacy, so that might have affected the outcome.

BTW he chose not to attend because it was too costly as an out-of-stater. I have a cousin who attends W &M in-state and loves it.

Hi! D # 1 applied to both UVA (ED) and W & M last year. She was accepted to W & M and was deferred and then rejected from UVA. Top 6% 1420 on SAT's and from Long Island. Her friend (also L.I.) is now a freshmen at W&M. Her stats were a bit lower (1350 range). The only kid I know from LI (who doesn't play Lacrosse or soccer) who got into UVA was accepted to the School of Nursing. She truly wanted to go into the field and didn't apply to the nursing school as an "easy" way to get into UVA. Three of d's classmates applied ED to UVA. All very similar SAT's and rank to my daughter-all Nat'l Merit Commended students. All were deferred and later rejected. Two of them are now at Cornell (my d is in the ILR school ) and one is at UNC. So- it's not impossible for an OOS kid to get into W&M or UVA but it ain't easy. I have to agree with Texastaximom. The tuition is quite high for OOS kids. It's actually cheaper for me to send my kid to Cornell than it would have been to send her to UVA. Dare I admit that I wasn't too upset that she did not get into UVA???

i think the acceptance rate at uva is 50% for in state and somewhere between 20 and 30% for out of state

UVA & W&M are hard enough to get into in-state...I can't imagine out of state. Wow...UVA accepts 50% of in-state students..that's not bad...does anyone know W&M acceptance rate? or which one is harder to get into?

The "over all" acceptance rate for W&M is listed as 35% or at least it was last year. I think it's pretty hard to get in to either whether you are in-state or out-of-state. Certain areas in-state, (NoVA) for instance, produce too many qualified kids. It makes it harder for those students to get accepted. I remember when I was at UVA, McLean High school sent 37 kids my first year, and Langly sent 64. My high school sent 7. UVA must accept 66% in-state. I don't know if W & M has the same stipulation.

Out-of-state tution is much, much higher. And like many states, higher ed is so underfunded that the tuition increases each year are steep. For in-staters, I think UVA has tried to eliminate student loans to help with costs.

My main beef with my alma mater, is that they are taking scholarship athletes---football in particular--who cannot even crack a 900. They remediate them elsewhere and bring them to campus the next year to play. This year two football players left early for the pros. Meanwhile we know kids with 1400s and 1500s that get rejected. I hate to see UVA move towards "big sports"....but judging by which teams they expanded the ACC with it is quickly moving in that direction. I prefer to have the athletic teams be at least a tad representative of the student body. UVA is not like most huge state schools with a more diversely academic student body. They should not reject top candidates and then turn around and accept below average (well below average) athletes.
