Out of state for an Ivy League or in state to stay close to home

I originally planned on applying to Brown early decision because aside from the fact that I haven't visited the campus (which is stupid, I know) and it's a 9 hour drive from where I live, I've always wanted to go there. Brown is my 1st choice, but my 2nd and 3rd are in my state. I wanted to apply early action to those two, but now I'm not sure if I should commit to applying ED to Brown. I know it'd probably be better to apply ED as far as getting in, but I don't know if I'd want to be so far away considering I can't even drive. Would applying ED and possibly getting in be worth it despite the distance? Considering I'm even accepted in the first place, anyway.

If you need to compare different financial aid awards then you should not use ED. If your family can afford Brown no matter what then it would be fine. Distance really doesn’t have anything to do with it IMO.

I guess it is a personal thing if distance is a big deal for you, what with skype, phones, email. My daughter went to Brown from CA. She didn’t drive either, you don’t need to drive there at all. It is very easy to get around the campus area, the city has a lot of walkable areas and public transportation. You can get to Boston easily. She did like having a bicycle, though. She just caught a plane home from Providence or Boston. She liked staying summers and doing research. She also had not visited, she was sure she would like it and she did. But probably you should try to visit. Maybe that will help you decide. You sound too indecisive to apply ED right now.
