Sorry! There are so many of these posts everywhere, but as someone who only sees really amazing scores on here (good job everyone! But I’m not a 4.0+ 34 ACT powerhouse) I feel a bit worried about my chances of receiving any grants or scholarships, however small.
In short, I’m wondering if anyone who’s sort of average, like me, has gotten money for the u of m, and what their stats were.
Here are mine (again, not the best, but not bad):
-Weighted GPA of 3.82 (but I have taken some APs, all of which I got 5s on)
-ACT of 31
-Treasurer of a student club for a few years, and
-50ish hours of volunteer work
I have some college fund money from my great-grandparents, but my family says they won’t help me pay for college past what I have, and since they make over 120k, I doubt I’ll get financial aid. So it’s really important to me to gauge whether or not there is a chance for me to get any money or not.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
Oh, also, I’m a resident of California, if that has any importance
Which UMN college are you applying to? There are six admitting colleges.
What college at UMTC? There are six admitting colleges - business, science and engineering, liberal arts, bio, and so forth. You have to apply by college. What are you hoping to major in?
Edit - oops. There are seven including design, ag, and education.
OK - 31 ACT is fine for CLA. Do you know your class rank?
Here are the stats by admitting college:

Admissions dept’s look at unweighted not weighted grades so you should try to have a good idea of what your uw gpa is.
The best scholarship for OOS is the National which is around $10,000 per year. Tends to be correlated wtih invitations to the honors program. Here are the stats for that:

Good luck to you!
Your ACT is fine, your 5’s will transfer, and you may be eligible for work study.
The U is a huge school though - you might feel overwhelmed in the beginning, especially being so far from home. But it’s also (in my biased opinion) a very good school and very underrated - there are endless opportunities here, especially for research and engaging in student groups.
Good luck!
