I am a twenty year old community college student from LA with excellent grades who is looking to transfer to a school in NYC for journalism. I've looked at schools in LA but I have been itching to move to NYC for so long ever since I visited a year ago. Admissions is not so much my concern as is PRICE!! I would absolutely love to attend NYU or Columbia, but I feel like even with extensive financial aid, it would still be expensive. Not to mention the cost of living near those schools! I am also looking at applying to Eugene Lang, but it is really pricey. Does anyone know if these schools offer good financial aid packages and scholarships? Is the cost to live there as outrageous as I think it is? I will be 21 by the time I transfer, so I would prefer to live off-campus.

I am also looking at Brooklyn College, which is more affordable (although I'm not sure how much their out-of-state tuition is). Pratt is another option and it seems to be just as expensive as the schools in Manhattan. The thing about these two schools is that the cost of living would be lower.

I should qualify for a good amount of financial aid, and with my grades I hope I can qualify for some merit scholarships. I completely slacked off my first semester of CC, but I finally got my act together and have been getting straight A's for the past three semesters. I know that the state schools and UC's in California are great and all, but I just really want to move to NYC.

So my question is this: What is the best value for a journalism student in NYC? Are there any other schools besides the ones I have listed that would be a good option? Am I just nuts and I should forget this fantasy of moving to the city altogether?
