Okay, so I was accepted into CAS as a Journalism Major and I'm trying to decide if I should go or not...Here's a little bit about me...

I'm a transfer student from Pace University (go ahead and make fun, I understand) and I plan to attend NYU beginnning Fall '05. But here's the problem, I just found out that Journalism majors have to be double majors which means that I'll have to spend 3 more years in school when originally I had only anticipated 2 more years. In the end, I'll have about $20,000 in debt. Is this worth it?? I mean, does the journalism department have a good enough reputation or is considered one of the "lesser" academic programs??

My financial aid package was decent and my parents are going to help me out...are you an NYU student?? Also, do you know the average amount of debt for an NYU student because I've heard some really outrageous amounts?

yeah, well nyu doesnt usually give that great of fin. aid so some people are in debt for the full amount of their tuitions!

i dont really know about journalism in particular, but i know their school paper is one of the best in the nation and its obviously great just to have a degree from nyu, no matter what you're going into

well, i'm also a journalism major (incoming freshman) and i think its definitely worth going to nyu for journalism! NYU isn't northwestern-medill, but its still very well-known for both print and broadcast journalism. Most importantly, new york city is the biggest journalism market in the world today; think of the opportunities (interships, jobs) you'd get studying there. Remember, location is a major point to consider if you want to enter this field.
