Out of State Tuition Scholarships

What are the typical stats needed to obtain one of the Out of State Tuition Scholarships? I copied the info from the 2013 class below but it doesn't indicate the student profile of those awarded each tier. Also are they merit or need based or combination? I assume merit based since it states, "very strong freshman class".

So for example, is there a shot at any of the tiers with the following stats?
- Female from NC majoring in Biomedical engineering
- GPA: Weighted- 4.5 / Unweighted- 3.7
- ACT: Composite- 34 (Eng. 33, Math 34, Reading, 33, Science 34)
- Usual ECs: NHS, Girl Scouts, Soccer, lots of community service, some leadership

Out of State Tuition Scholarships
Recipients are selected from admitted freshmen who are non-Florida residents for tuition purposes. There is not a separate application for these scholarships, as all admitted students who apply by the November 1 priority deadline are considered eligible. The recipients are selected by a committee each spring and will be notified via e-mail and regular mail by the end of March. Due to our very strong freshman class and the limited number of scholarships we are able to award, our committee has a very challenging time making their selections.
There are three tiers of out-of-state scholarships, reducing the out-of-state tuition for selected students.
The dollar amounts are reflective of the awards made to members of the 2013 freshman class:
Office of Admissions Alumni Scholarship: $8,000 per year
Sunshine Scholarship: $16,000 per year
Gator Nation Scholarship: $20,000 per year

Not a lot is known about the scholarships, however, I’ve seen folks with weaker GPA/Test scores be awarded the scholarships. It is holistic, so your EC’s will help (and any leadership positions you’ve may have had).

Good Luck!

Resurrecting my ole’ Out of State Tuition Scholarship thread since it’s getting closer… Is anyone aware of more info on these scholarships? And when are they typically awarded? (March? June?). Most places award in March but I’m not sure on UF.

PS: Hi Carrie

Agree. I know a couple out of staters who have gotten this waiver. I think your stats are really good, but its up to UF holistic system.

Grab as many raffles as you can!

Do you know when the scholarships are typically awarded? Trying to see if we’ll have all the facts and info before the May 1st commitment deadline… preferably in March so we can tour the school if we know in advance it is a financially viable option.

You should be notified via e-mail and regular mail by the end of March on OOS scholarships.

Good Luck!

ahhh i hope i fit this! it’d be awesome to get a little cushioning from gator central

My daughter received the GatorNation scholarship last year. She learned she was selected in March via email.

^ Gator4Life, do you mind sharing your daughter’s stats? I’m curious to see where mine might fall into them, if at all. Thanks

Also so if the Housing deposit is due March 11, is there a chance we would hear on scholarships before then like early March, or is is generally the end of the month? II realize I’ll have to pay so we don’t lose the spot but it would be nice to know before then if possible.
