Are state colleges more selective of out-of-staters than in-staters or is the only disadvantage having to pay more? I live in Massachusetts. Say I apply to the University of Texas, will I have a noticeably more difficult time getting in than a Texan, or does the admissions board not care about residency too much?

Yea, you will have a much tougher time getting in. Especially for the top public schools like UT-Austin, UC-Berkeley, UNC-Chapel Hill, etc.

You will especially have a hard time getting into UT because of the 10% law they have in Texas. I have also read that UNC and U of Virginia are very hard to get in OOS.

What about University of Washington, any idea what their story is?
