outfitting your room

besides all the obvious stuff, what would i need for my dorm?

for example.. should i get a rug?

ohhh.. do rooms come with mirrors?

Do Bursley doubles come with sinks, medicine cabinets, and towel racks? East quad did during orientation so I'm curious.

The dorms in east quad had a sink and a mirror. I'm not sure if all dorms in the campus are like that. I can't imagine they differ too much. I'm thinking of bringing a rug. It looks like the dorm could use one.

rug is personal preference...if you want one, bring one. No, not all rooms come with sinks; in fact, as the ones in EQ break, Housing is just taking them out (people pee in them..eww). So, don't count on one, but it might be there. All rooms will have a towel rack and med. cabinet...to my best knowledge.

fan

microwave

refrigerator

small message board to put on the outside of your room's door in the hallway (optional... Get one if you want people to leave messages when they come to see you, and you're not available.)

shower curtain (not sure if all of the dorms are like this... However, mine has an area in which there is a normal closet with a door and another space where more clothes can hang as well as coats and towels minus the door. The shower curtain acts as a de facto door for the second "storage" area.)

other items that make you feel comfortable and at home (i.e. posters, DVDs, etc.)

rug (optional)

If you have a roommate(s), talk to him/her because some of the responsibility to buy these things can be divided between the two (or more) of you.

Don't worry too much about bringing everything with you -- there's Maize Craze -- when they arrange for buses to take you to Meijer's which has pretty much everything. Ann Arbor has a Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target. Also, there's an IKEA not far away. Dorm rooms are not very big - so it's better not to bring stuff you'll never use.

Actually Maize Craze is a pep rally: you're thinking of Meijer Madness.

Ikea is kinda far away for students who don't live in the immediate area, and it's not like dorm rooms afford much space for extra furniture/decoration.

Has anyone here ever worked at meijer?

I'm asking this because I currently work there and will be going on 'educational leave' on the 18th. I want to know if my discount is valid during that time period.

I heard that if you decide to go shopping during move-in a lot of stores are sold out of the items... :( so.. to bring a lot, or not?
