Barnard’s Dean of Admissions Jennifer Fondiller reports that application numbers are up 11 percent over last year. While final numbers are not yet fully compiled, there are currently 5,126 young women vying for spots in the class of 2015. This is the first time the College has received over 5,000 applications (last year’s total was 4,618), and follows a record 550 Early Decision applications received this fall, representing a 38 percent increase over last year.</p>

<p>Fondiller attributes the increased interest to her staff’s targeted recruitment, as well as revamped tours and open houses that bring to life what’s unique about Barnard. And, she said, since the Diana Center opened last winter, there has been a huge amount of buzz among prospective students. </p>

<p>With the application review process underway, Fondiller has been struck by the degree of thoughtfulness, curiosity, and enthusiasm of this year’s applicants. “From what we’ve seen so far, this is a pool of remarkably accomplished young women – narrowing this field will not be an easy task,” she said.

<p>RDers… don’t let this freak you out! A similar article came out about ED applicants and we started full out spazzing. No joke; you can look. This is not a time for you guys to be dwelling negatively over this. Just think of it as an opportunity of a lifetime; you could be going to school with the best and the brightest. The same ratio of EDers on the thread were admitted into Barnard this year as those admitted last year. Take a deep breath and know that you have shown your stuff and all you have to do now is enjoy the fact that the college application process is done! Good luck.</p>

<p>I can see how Barnard could actually be more attractive to some applicants now, with the Center completed, than previously when it was under construction.</p>
