Over Enrollment Capacity?

Have you guys ever seen over enrollment capacity happen? For example, the Enrollment capacity is 40, but the number of student enroll is 45 let say?

I am talking about "before" the class is started. I know after the first day, instructor may add more student so the number of enroll exceed enrol cap, but would it happen before the class has stated?

I just wonder because in the system, it say the enrol cap of my class in 40. However, in myucla.edu, when I click classmates, it say that "Of the 47 other students enrolled in this class, 39 either do not have profiles or have not chosen to release their class information." it says "47 other", so if including me, the total enrollment would be 48? I feel kind of weird about that.

Summer school courses generally gives out PTE numbers beforehand for enrollment.

thx Mrspam, but how can I get the PTE number? I sent email to the instructor and he didn't mention any think about PTE, just said my chance to enroll in the class is small ( I couldn't get the class), and there is also no wait list for it

I know people who got them through their department, because, in my friend's case, the class they wanted to take required a pre-req that they're taking right now.

What class is it?
