Anyone know what the red star next to the title of this thread means? I'm sure it's a good thing, but I don't know what specifically.

Amen . .I'm probably considered a big slacker. I don't study for tests at all and complete term papers the morning they're due lol . .ah well. That's all about to change in college though- I'm screwed if I ever flunk out.

it means you posted here david

yeah... listen to celebrian

why'd you say that?

cuz you said it means you posted there. i wasn't being sarcastic.

Oh ok, I didn't know because this is the first thread I've posted in. Thanks for explaining that. Anyone know of kids whogot into good schools with really good grades, test scores, ECs, and good personalities, but not all hardest classes? That's the position that seems to be common among the posters here.

how about kids with decent grades (Mostly B's and A's, with maybe a C) but with good everything else.

thoughtprocess, it seems from your stats that you mst get basically all As...are you just asking for other people?

I'm semi. Though (I'm British) and when my AS-Levels came through with 2 Cs included I wasn't very happy. What's even more annoying that over-achievers is those who get the results without trying for them. I know someone who never studies and yet manages to get straight As constantly.

I've gotten mostly A's and B's, but the GPA only weighs in the final grade. My GPA is like an A i think because of my final grades. I'm not sure what is actually looked at.

I'm also asking for other people, mainly because as a future predictor of success, I think high school grades, atleast freshman and sophomore years, are one of the least important factors.

I'm almost certain that your final grades are the only ones that go on your transcript. Also, I agree with you about highschool grades, I don't think they are a predictor of future success. Grades in college might lead to more accurate predictions, but even those aren't foolproof. Just watch the new Apprentice--the "steetsmarts" without college embarassed the Ivy graduates in the first challenge of the season. Obviously sarcasm.

i always feel crappy inside because of my slacker nature. i feel like im wasting my natural talents. i mean, its immodest, but i have lot of raw ability, i'm just he laziest bum this side of... bum.. place. and that's worse. it would kidna be better being dumb and lazy. that way i could rot without the guilt.

if you feel guilty, you obviously aren't enjoying it.

Wow, abacadaf, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I don't really feel guilty about it, but I always question and torture myself thinking about it. The way to prevent yourself from feeling awful about it is to jstu say "this is highschool...I'm going to promise myself to work hard in college," and I think it will all work out. That's what I'm telling myself at least. It will be a hard for me to see kids who are nowhere near my natural ability going to better schools, but I can't blame anyone but myself. I'd be a ridiculous student if I could only put forth the effort that most kids do, but some of us just can't do that yet. I strongly believe that life will work out for us smart slackers though. We have a lot more to work with. The kids who work really hard in highschool to do well are going to have to work even harder in college, so I think we're at an advantage. I say keep the slacker outlook because it's healthier than overachieving, but when you get to college, have your work habits be more like the overchievers in highschool. As thoughtprocess said, you shouldn't be at the point where you feel guilty, but I think a lot of us are. Wow, that was longer than I had intended.

where are you going david?

any college is fine for undergrad, thats what i think, money is the main factor

money is huge for me, which is why I'll probably just apply to a few selective privates just for the heck of it

I had my math exam today. I think I got about 60-70ish out of 90. I would have scored higher if I hadn't forgotten what log functions were all about.

Lol - this is an awesome thread. As for me, I have three missing assignments for AP euro. I turned one in this morning... and just finished writing my essay on romanticism at 11:59 (all overdue were due in his email box by 12, PHEW!). And about that third one? Yea, well, too bad. He drops the lowest essay anyways. So, i'm ok. But yea, doing well in school is almost an internal thing. If i get a B+ in a class that I really made some stupid mistakes in, i'm kinda ticked because i knew i just didn't give a hoot and I easily could have gotten the A, but if i get a B+ in a class that I worked my butt off in and the teacher only gives like 2 As out of all his classes.... then I'm content. It's all relative.
