Overblown college cliches

Can you guys list some cliches about college that aren't true, not as true as they are made out to be, and/or you've never experienced.

College is a breeze - I came from a competitive private school, and we always loved to say how easy college would be. Not true at all, it's a completely different ballgame, and much more difficult. But this will differ from school to school.

At "party schools" all one does is party....

At harder-type schools all one does is study...

I don't think this is a cliche except at your school. Most of the time college is made out to be harder than it really is.

Yeah college is a lot easier than my highschool was... I did IB for high school and college is just the same thing with less class and fewer grades... I don't know I find it much easier.

^ i guess that all depends on your major

to me college is 100X harder than high school

It doesn't depend primarily on your major, it depends primarily on what kind of high school you went to. I know people at ivies who say it's easy compared to high school.

nah. some majors have heavier workloads compared to other majors.

I don't know about you guys, but women frolicking in lingerie in my room aren't as common as I had hoped =(

People still study at party schools...you can't get through an engineering or science major by partying the whole time

Major plays a pretty big role. My business major friend who has class 3 times a day and spends 80% of his time watching episodes of 24 or The Office and playing online card games certainly finds college easier than high school.

I, as a bio major taking a bunch of upper divs and getting involved in other activities, or my engineering friends or chem major friends, certainly find college to be more work than high school.

^^ Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. Major is a big factor.

College is not a good time to find yourself. You will be far too busy.

All frats are like animal house. If you join a frat there are community service and GPA requirements. It's not just one big toga party.

"People still study at party schools...you can't get through an engineering or science major by partying the whole time"

The real party schools these days don't have engineering majors.

^ That's not true. Speaking as a Cali boy, Stanford, USC, and UCLA all have renowned engineering programs and can throw a party or two. Hell, even Cal with its hordes of trolls has three or four huge parties a weekend.

^ notice how none of those are party schools.

UT Austin has an engineering program

for some reason i remember thinking college would solve all my problems. as in i would be transported into the better part of my life and have it be awesome all the time. by this i mean, instant group of awesome, lifelong friends. classes you not only love but work hard in and learn immensely from. playing sports, chilling on the lawn or whatevver they call the grassy fields at your school after class everyday. clubs that were really active and i met and became great friends with everyone in them. having the best time of my life, not just overall, but every moment, 24/7. and someting about "finding yourself" and "growing" and becoming who you will be as an adult.

maybe that's true for some people, i doubt it though. so don't think that cause you'll be disappointed.

sorry for being cynical lol
