I just had my interview for ED at Brown and got a very positive response. She said that I was a very qualified candidate she wouldn’t know why I wouldn’t get in. The funny thing is, my friend who also applied ED to Brown was told the same thing. Granted, this was the same interviewer, but it got me thinking, are they told to say this to their interviewees? My other friend who applied EA to Princeton was also told that he would be “a perfect fit for the school”. I was also sent a very encouraging follow up email. Have any of you gotten a similar response? I know this thread might just be seen as bragging, but trust me, my friends and I are very concerned that this response may have been scripted. Thanks for any responses.
No, Brown alumni interviewers are definitely not told to say this. We have very little impact on the admissions process, and I find it disappointing that interviewers are telling students that they’re qualified based on a short conversation. It’s great that your interview went well, but the reality is that most students are not admitted.
Not scripted, but not meaningful either. I wonder if this is a newer interviewer as my friends and I discovered pretty quickly that it’s nearly impossible to guess who will/won’t get in and very frequently the applicants we like the most get rejected. We’re given almost zero info about you and maybe see half a dozen applicants if we’re in a high volume area so it’s really not appropriate to be saying stuff like that as an interviewer when there are 30k kids applying and <10% get accepted.
