Overnight Guests

Hi, I was recently accepted to Swarthmore and was curious as to whether students often have overnight guests (friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc.). I saw that the overnight policy allows for a guest to stay overnight only 4 times a term. Are residential deans very strict about this?

I don’t think that’s enforced, but if you have a roommate, which you will as a freshman except in extenuating circumstances, this is an issue to work out with your roommate. Also, there isn’t a “residential dean” in each dorm. There are R.A.s on each floor.

Ok, I see

If such a thing wasn’t enforced 30 years ago when I was a student, I can’t imagine it would be now. But the important issue is your roommate; freshmen and most sophomores share a room, so having a guest is a big imposition on your roommate.

It’s not enforced. At all. Anybody can come into the dorms with you as long as you’re being respectful of your hallmates and nobody is being put in danger or feeling unsafe. More often than not (as has been pointed out) you’ll have to work out overnight guests with your roommate more than anyone else.
