Overqualification

I never seen anything from any college stating that they reject "overqualified" candidates. Its just a myth made up by all the egotistic, 4.0, 2400s to justify not being accepted to a college because they have nothing else in their application. GET OVER IT! You were rejected, the school didn't want you. They determined that other candidates were better than you. WOW; wake up, your almost an adult. You are NOT the center of the universe.

It is not a myth that some colleges may waitlist or reject top students since they believe they will receive admission to other colleges and accept that offer instead, thus affecting the school's yield. However, at a school like WashU, there is no such thing as an "overqualified" applicant. There are different circumstances to each person: if you have a perfect SAT, amazing ECs, val, etc., and you show minimal interest in the school, it is only logical for them to assume that you are using them as a safety - which is a very stupid thing to do. They have every right to not give that student a coveted spot in the class. However, a lot of people are angry because they've invested a lot of time in the app and tried hard to show interest in the school, only to be waitlisted with so many others that may have simply been using the school as a safety.

o seriously? I really thought I was the center of the universe.

No, that's me.

You're both wrong. My daughter is the center of the universe.

Ur HINDOO LOL

At our school, we're taught that the earth is the center of the universe.

Your school is wrong.

excuse me?

It's really the moon, brand :P

You all laugh now! :D

This is where you are wrong, too. Wash U didn't pick the "better candidate." There is no such thing as a "better" candidate anyway. That's a subjective determination that depends on the standards of each individual institution. The accepted students were "better" for Wash U. Doesn't mean they were "better than" the waitlisted students in general. To say that is just as wrong.

MallomarCookie--AAC063 is just bitter that he isn't the center of the universe.

you guys are cute.

ivyracer, i concur. this thread has been quite amusing. ^^
