Who plans on going? I do! :D

whenis it?

http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~owlwknd/ :)

i'll probably be going!

I'll probably try to host somebody.

My son is definitely going!

Same with mine! He may fly up early and stay with his sis. :) She's been wanting him to come visit, and visa versa.

My son will be there, too. Just made the plane reservations this afternoon! It would be nice if all you guys could meet up somehow :)

I want to go, but my school might take away my exemptions, if I miss more days due to college related stuff. Their policy is strict, and they don't make exceptions, every time I have been absent, it was due to a scholarship or an interview. :( Hopefully, I can talk my way around it.

I'm going. Can anybody who went last year or knows about it tell me what kind of events go on for fun? I know there's a tour and sit in on classes, but how about other, more social events?

I'm planning on hosting a prospie and can't wait.

When I went last April, there was a picnic, a drag show, a baseball game, and a few music concerts.

Last year, Owl Weekend was Thursday night, Friday, Friday night, and ended Saturday morning. This year starts on Sunday evening. I don't think you can compare it to last year in terms of what will be happening on campus since it's not a weekend.

I'm guessing there won't be wild parties on a Sunday/Monday night.

Nope. Has other conflicts and does not want to miss anymore school days. Too much going on then. He will go over his spring break (not theirs) stay with a couple of students and try to get enough questions answered to allow him to make his final choice. Have fun everyone at Owl Weekend. It should be a hoot.

I already know that im going to Rice. I got accepted early decision. I also live in New York so its a little difficult to get down to Texas. Is it worth comming to Owl Weekend if I already know that Ill be going to Rice?

My son (accepted ID) will probably go. But he can only stay until Monday evening because two days of school is too much to miss. We're thinking of maybe sending him to arrive Saturday evening because the airfares are cheaper with a Sat night stayover, and otherwise he has to leave hellishly early on Sunday to get there in time. But I'll need to scrounge around and find a place for him to stay Sat night and I am also not sure if he can find things to do since it's not part of the organized session. I guess I should talk to Admissions...

Overall though it sounds like a good way to get a sense if Rice is the right school.

Westchestermom -- check your private messages; your son is welcome to stay at our home on Saturday night. My son will be attending Owl Weekend too.

I'm sure someone would be happy to host your son on Saturday night. Do call Admissions. :)

See someone already offered while I was posting!

Clendenenator, if you (or anyone else reading this) is interested in doing undergrad research at Rice, you should definitely come to RURS (the Rice undergrad research symposium) on Monday (April 16) of Owl Weekend. It runs from 10 to 3 (though we haven't scheduled the keynote speaker yet) in the RMC (the student center) and will feature probably about 150 or so undergrads presenting posters about their research :).

Thanks, I may hop onto that; but I was still kinda curious as to the "evening activities" that might take place...

Is everyone accepted to Rice invited to Owl Weekend? (esp a RD such as myself)
