<p>I looked on that overseas students website that Oxford keeps directing people to, but I don't really understand. Just in case, I want to ask ... when does the university applications start in England? Do you have to register somewhere beforehand e.g. that foreign students website? Is there a difference in what colleges I apply to? Do I randomly select one?</p>
<p>very briefly -- if you apply to oxbridge,or several colleges at once, you must fill out the UKASE form -- the deadline for next year was in oct/nov. If you apply to one college only -- go to their individual websites and request an application. Places like St Andrews and Edinburgh have a deadline sometime in May</p>

<p>In the UK you have something called UCAS, it can be seen as the UK version of the Common Application.</p>
<p>You sign up on UCAS, where you have to fill in your grades, teacher stuff (not sure about this bit cuz my school did it for us) and you list a maximum of 5 universities you want to apply to and the subjects (majors) you want to do at each university. </p>
<p>You write one essay which will be sent to each university about yourself, your goals and why you want to study the major you have chosen.</p>
<p>You then send your UCAS application off, and it is sent to your list of universities. When I did UCAS, the deadline was Jan 15 for everyone except people applying to do medicine, dentistry or veterinary sciences - the deadline for this was Oct 15. Also, the Cambridge and Oxford deadline is around Oct too.</p>
<p>Please note that you can only apply to either Cambridge OR Oxford - you can't apply to both.</p>
<p>The maximum number of universities you can apply for drops down to 4 if you apply for medicine, dentistry or veterinary sciences.</p>

<p>The deadline for international students is October 15, same as the deadline for medicine/veterinary/dental students.</p>
<p>As for applying to colleges within Oxford (I don't know about Cambridge because I only researched/applied to Oxford), here are some helpful links I used:

<p>Make sure that you research which colleges offer the course you're applying to, if you want to apply to a specific college, because most colleges don't offer all of the courses available at the university. If you don't really mind which college you go to, you can make what's called an "open application" where they randomly select one for you based on which course you're applying to.</p>
<p>Applying to Oxford (filling out the UCAS) was the easiest application I filled out — as cdover said, all you basically have to do is write one essay. They also ask for a teacher recommendation and give you space to fill out what standardized tests you've taken and what your scores are. Note that they don't look at your high school grades at ALL — they didn't even ask for a transcript. Also, make sure you check any additional requirements your course has for application: some require additional exams administered by Oxbridge or samples of your writing.</p>
<p>I don't think the international deadline is Oct 15 (unless the international student is applying for medicine etc., and/or to Oxbridge).</p>
<p>My sister applied last year in May and still got in without going through Clearing (we're UK citizens so it was way past the Jan 15 deadline).</p>
<p>From what I can tell the deadline is 30 June for international students: UCAS</a> Students: Important dates for your diary. However, the better unis might not have any places that late.</p>
<p>Oh, and if you're applying for medicine/dentistry/veterinary sciences/law you'll have to take a few prerequisite exams like the UKCAT, BMAT or LNAT.</p>
