How hard is it to cope up with the workload at Oxford College? I heard they really make you work hard to prepare you for Emory College. I'm considering going there, but to tell to you truth I'm not that brilliant of a student. I mean I'm a very hard worker and have done some every good work according to my AP History teacher but I tend to be a bad test taker sometimes. Other times I am surprisingly smart. And plus I've never taken AP math or AP language arts. I want to do business but I need advice on what to do...maybe there's an academic boot camp that can "beef" me up.

I found this on www.studentsreview.com for Emory. Is it true that other kids try to screw you over...how do they do it? That's so mean.

This is what I found:

Emory is a school based solely on money. The administration bases how you're treated on your family name. Majority of the girls here are jappy, not too bright and wannabe goldiggers - although very pretty until they open their mouthes. The guys are short and not too good looking for the most part. The good looking ones are all conceited and undatable. There is no school spirit and no unity amoung students. Most and will screw other students if it will put them ahead. The social scene is people are selfcenteredpretty much nonexistant because there is nothing to do on campus thanks to a administration that cares only about outsiders views of Emory, rather than student happiness. They really don't care about the students unless you are in the business school - but in the b-school the other students try to screw you over and the grading system makes it hard to suceed. Emory is very much like a middle school where everybody that goes out and is social (only about 1500 of the 7000 undergrads) know each other and love to talk about each other. There is a wide-read gossip collumn in the school paper every Friday (Power Polls) and within the greek system (which makes up about 75% of the people that go out and party) most people carry reputations that are hard to break and often inaccurate. If you're looking for a mini-work enviroment combined with a middle school like social environment - Emory is right for you, however if you're looking for a college experience with lots of partying and lots of people to meet - DON'T GO HERE!

Please post your response or feedback.

I would really appreciate some feedback in regard to these two comments...I think other prospective students would find it beneficial as well.

Sounds like the person that wrote the article is more concerned of the social aspects...how good looking are other students, how datable, how are the parties?

Of course my prospective is from a parent so take with a grain...the campus is beautiful, awesome! The students look like average students....lots of school spirit judging by the numbers of kids in Emory gear. No one stood out as great looking, in my opinion. Just kids heading from one class to another, with cell phones or Ipods. The two students we met on a campus tour were great. Both outgoing, likeable, articulate and each had diverse majors. Both seemed extremely happy with Emory. Personally, I'd be very pleased for my daughter to attend this university.

If you are serious student, hoping to complete your final two years at Emory, the workload would have to be sufficiently difficult at Oxford. My youngest daughter doesn't quite have the qualifications for admissions to Emory but is very close. She loved the campus when we toured last week. Oxford may be just the right answer for her. We will take a very close look at the cirriculum over the next year.

As for the students review, that is probably one student who was just to much of an ass hole and should be taken out back. I am pretty offended by the "jappy" comment. Whoever wrote that is also probably anti-jewish and b/c emory has a very large jewish student body, doesn't like the school. As for the social aspect, thats not really true at all. The frats have good parties, but the school is pretty cliquey. Also, drugs (paticularly weed and shrooms) are pretty prevalent with a large part of the student body, but its like the intellectual stoners, not the stupid ones. Some people like this aspect, others don't

That review you selected was just ONE of FOURTY ONE different ones. It appears the majority are positive. But it sounds like the one you posted was written by a stuck up *****, considering her anti-sematic description and bitter tone.

Is there anything that I can do to prepare for oxford? Any programs or advice books out there that you think could beneficial. I'm willing to work my butt off....I'm just not that brilliant but willing to make changes..whatever it takes to be Emory University graduate. What do you think I should do...go to a less competitive school where I'll be able to handle the course load..or what can I do to prepare for the largest hill?

create good study habits. also, i've heard that Emory Oxford really isn't a great experience. You may want to look into that paticular campus more...
