We know Oxford is doing its job educationally when a student with that background and preparation can feel a burn in some of the classes without taking like…6 of them. It also means that instructors care to even challenge top students, which in larger classes at a research university, often requires a lot more work and resources. On the main campus, usually only senior lecture track faculty manage that and even many of them say “meh, I will just entertain the middle students” (which are good, don’t get me wrong, but is definitely different from dedicating time towards challenging someone with experience in the course, such as a AP 5 or IB 6/7 in the analogous or related area).
