I recently applied to both Emory main and Oxford (for Oxford Scholars), and I was wondering how difficult it is to be invited to interview for OS. I don't want to repost all my stats here, but I can give a quick synopsis:
GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT: Getting my new scores tomorrow (already contacted an admissions counselor and they said it was fine if I sent them late), and while I am expecting to get somewhere between a 750 and 800 on both CR and W, my old scores were 730 W, 700 CR, and 580 M. I know the math is really sad. I only retook the SAT to raise that score, but I don't think it's going up any...that being said, I intend to study creative writing, and my whole application is based on that.
ECs: Band, drama, literary (placed in state), Beta Club, NHS, plus others and leadership in band and drama.
Academic awards: I've gotten a lot. I'm also #3 in the class, a merit commended student, and went to interview for Governors Honors (Georgia folks will know what that is!)
Essays: I spent FOREVER on these. I honestly think my Common App essay was one of the best essays I've ever written, and my supplement essay included references to a specific faculty member and specific classes in my department.
Recs: I got my AP Lang and APUSH teachers to write them, so they should be good.

Well, I didn't intend for this to be a chance me kind of post, but I guess that's what it turned into. I've already been invited to interview at Georgia Southern and Mercer University, so I'm really hoping I'll get Oxford as well.

It’s hard to tell–I think you’ll at least get an interview. IMHO, because you’re application is strong other than your math score, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get some amount of merit aid from Oxford–but I wouldn’t expect anything that would continue to the Atlanta campus.

One thing I will mention is that I think there’s only 1 creative writing course at Oxford (though you can take 300-level English courses that will count toward the Joint major in English and Creative Writing, which is how Emory’s creative writing program works). You can get special permission to take courses at the Atlanta campus while at Oxford, but it can be a logistical nightmare. Also, if you are an Oxford Scholar, you’re expected not to graduate from Oxford early.

Really? I hope you’re right, although it would be nice to get at least something that would continue to the Atlanta campus. I’m just worried that I’m going to end up Georgia Southern and absolutely hate it because I’ll never be able to let go of the fact that I could have gone somewhere better…
This whole college thing is extraordinarily stressful. /:

Have you talked to your parents about how much they would be able to afford (and consequently, how large of a scholarship you would need)?

Yep. My dad did the net calculator thing and we get absolutely no financial aid, aside from whatever Zell Miller and the GA Equalization Grant give, which isn’t a lot. I would basically need a scholarship that pays for everything- or almost everything- to go, since my brothers are going to be in college at the same time as me. It wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t have to pay my older brother’s full tuition at VSU (he didn’t exactly try in high school).
