Oxford Tour and Questions

Hello Emory Forum,

I just wanted to share some information from my tour at the Oxford Campus today, and ask a few questions. =D

While the general attitude on this forum seems to be that the Oxford Campus is extremely small, the surrounding area had much more than anywhere I've ever lived. (Maybe I'm weird)

While Oxford only accepts 1 semester of AP/IB credit, if you have enough college-transfer credit, it's feasible to graduate in only one year with applying as a transfer student, which is what I'm hoping to do.

We were told that the 3:2 BA/BS//BS program with Georgia Tech is being discontinued while the 4:2 BS/MS program in Biomedical Engineering will still exist.

There was a rumor about the Oxford graduate having a higher inductee-rate in Phi Beta Kappa than Emory-starters on this forum. The last addition of Outlook says that 11 continuees from Oxford were inducted--6 from the class of 2009, and 5 from the class of 2008 (in addition to the class of 2008 students inducted the previous year). So it appears that, at least for these past two years, that rumor is false.

As for questions, I'm looking for student perspectives on the BA/MA program in Political Science and information about Poli Sci/Pre-law at Emory and Oxford in General, and if anyone knows how Oxford/Emory does transfer credit for 3-hour classes.

Thanks! =D

Hi aigiqinf

Oxford/Emory will accept the credit as long as it is approved by the dean or a faculty. Email them the course descriptions (course syllabus if you are trying to transfer language courses) and get it approved. As for the credit hour, you will be awarded the same amount of credit you received at the original school. Your 3 - credit hour courses will be awarded 3 credit hours, but will satisfy the requirement if it has a comparative course at emory.

If you are transferring as a vertical transfer (which means you received your AA), your letter grade will be shown on the Emory transcript. (I am not sure about the GPA system and comparative course list), but if you are moving to emory/oxford as a horizontal transfer (no AA) you will be awarded the comparative emory/oxford course but your GPA will not count and your letter grades will not show.

I’m actually not a transfer student because all of my college courses will be taken before high-school graduation. But the information of getting approval for transfer courses is very helpful, thanks! =)

The 3 credit course this is helpful because that allows me transfer more courses.
