P/NP or B/B- in major prereq?

Right now Im halfway through my last major prereq and my grade is not looking good. The assignments are silly and Im just not on the same page as the GSI who is grading everything. I honestly think that the best grade I can get at this point is a B, but a B+ or something in the C range is also likely.

Not only will these hurt my GPA, but I'm afraid that it'll look like Im a subpar student, and it will look really weird in comparison to my other grades. During my first few semesters, I got Bs in my major (most weren't prereqs though) classes. This summer I am taking 4 4 unit classes in my major at UCB. 3 are upper divs and really hard. This one is so easy yet it's my worst grade because I'm just not on the same page as the grader. I already got my grades for my first 2 upper divs-A- in one and a B+ in one of the hardest upper divs, which happens to be an advanced version of the lower div Im not doing well in.

Since I already got a B+ in the advanced class, I'm hoping that they won't look badly on getting a P in the basic class. I also think that if I got a b or a c itll look REALLY bad and it'll look like I got lucky in the advanced class, which totally isn't true because that was the hardest class I've ever taken and I still score above the curve.

Since I'm also taking 2 more classes right now in addition to working full time, the P makes sense...right?

I will take a B or B+ since P is almost the same as a C, but it doesn’t count toward your gpa. a B over a P, but a P is better than a C.

Don’t you need to take all major pre-reqs for a letter grade?

From the Berkeley General Catalog:

“A course that is required in or prerequisite to your major may be taken on a P/NP or S/U basis only upon approval of the faculty of your school or college.”

http://berkeley.edu/catalog/policies/grades.html</a></p>

For my major, I am allowed to take one class P/NP.

In that case, I’d take a “B” or even a B- over a “Pass”. Save your P/NP option for when you really need it.

I highly doubt I’d need it more than now. After this summer I’ll only have 5 more classes to take and I already took the hardest one (the one I got a B+ in). The rest will be electives.

Regardless…I would rather get a C on my transcript when I’m a senior than a B- or C now when I’m trying to prove to UCB that Im a good fit for their school. But since I will have all of the hard classes done, once I transfer I can just coast so I expect my GPA to be much higher.

I guess I’ve made my decision…lol. I just don’t want to work my ass off trying to figure out what exactly I need to do to maintain a B/B+ in the class (cuz it looks like an A is already out of the question) when I’m not learning anything. This class is literally like taking pre calc after youve already taken calc…its basically a waste of my time, and while it would have been nice to have an easy A, since it’s not i don’t want to put in the effort. I’ll just do C work and have this not affect my GPA, and devote all of my efforts to getting As in my other 2 classes.
