Pace University or CUNY Baruch

i wish we could do it, uhh my essay was on networking i think...

what are your stats? [sat's..gpa..ec's?]

lol does it matter anymore?
you can search my posts for the answers to your questions :)

Can people from out of state apply to Baruch Honors? Do they do anything for legacies?

i think.....legacies? no lol its a public university, well I don't remember the application having anything about legacies on them

Some public universities recognize legacies - like Michigan for example.

hmm...but i dont think that legacy can help you with honors because honors is a relatively new program in the cuny system. maybe it'll help you get into the college, though i dont think there is really a need for that

Are you a Honors student?

not for baruch

Go to Cuny-baruch, its way better.

^but theres nothing to set me apart if i went to baruch, in pace ill be in the honors college

Yeah, but honestly how many top places recruit from pace? It is always better to be the worst at a top place rather than best in the worst place. Just my two cents.

This is the director(William Offutt) of the Honor's College Response to my Questions:

What graduate schools do Honors College students get accepted to?

That's very possible to answer, but it depends on the field. Just tonight I was part of deciding whom to nominate for a graduate scholarship--we had accepted students at Stern/NYU Business for MBA, Cornell for Veterinary School, NYU Institute of Fine Arts, and Hastings Law School (one of the best state schools of law in California). I personally advise a lot of pre-law students, and have had students go to Harvard, UPenn, UC Berkeley, and NYU, among others.

I was wondering if you knew what kind of companies recruit from Pace specifically for finance and accounting majors.

[removed personal dialogue]...like we get recruited by large numbers of employers from both Finance (JP Morgan is a prime one on Finance) and Accounting (the big 4 accounting firms all come by), I can get you a full list from our Co-op (which is internships and Career Planning people)

Yeah, thats great and all, but out of how many? Also, from what I remember Cuny-Baruch also gets recruited heavily from JP Morgan and many other firms. A lot more heavily than Pace. I would say that those people who did get accepted to those prestigious schools are less than .5% of the school.

I went to CCNY many years ago and don't even live in New York anymore. But before open admissions, PACE was where you went if you didn't get into City. After open admissions, PACE had a little more cache probably because it cost money while the city schools were free. Is Baruch currently a lot cheaper than PACE? If so, it's cheaper and better - seems like a no-brainer.

Guys, Baruch college has a lower acceptance rate than even NYU. I looked up on the statistics and I saw that Baruch has 23% and NYU has 32% - it’s a big difference. For instance, Harvard has 7%. I don’t know about Pace, but it definitely higher than Baruch.
Which means that it’s harder to get into Baruch.

First, you can’t go solely by acceptance rate statistics since some schools self-select top quality candidates.

Frankly, I don’t see that much of a difference between Pace and Baruch as to their name cache or academic quality or even pay levels for faculty. Frankly, I think of them both as being fairly equal in both cache and academics with only a few slight differences.

Regarding fees and tuition, the difference, however, is enormous:

Baruch is about $4,800 per year for both tuition and fees for residents

Pace is about $32,800 per year for tuition and fees. IN fact, the tuition is so high at Pace that they hide it. You actually have to search for tuition and fees to figure out what they charge.

Does Pace or almost any school other than Wharton and NYU have the cache to justify an extra $28,000 per year?!Over four years that will result in over a $100,000 difference, not to mention cost of living increases too. You can almost buy the small BMW each year for the difference or use the money to buy a house. I just don’t get why anyone would think that Pace is worth an extra $102,000++ for the four years.
