Pack the Sunscreen, Hats and Water

Temperature in the 90's is predicted for R-Day at West Point.

Given WP is right on the Hudson, there's a good chance the humidity will be rather high as well.

For a good ol boy like me, this will be a spring-like day. For some of you, however, I suggest you wear light clothing and sunscreen, put a couple bottles of water in your backpack and wear a hat.

90 degree heat, standing in line and the stress of R-Day can be a tough combination to physically handle. I would hate to have any of the new cadets or guests remember this special occassion as the day they experienced heat stroke/exhaustion.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable R-day.

Man you got that right. Here in So Cal the humidity hovers around 10-15 % at those temps. I am not looking forward to 60%+!!!! We fly out this evening.

Chance of thunderstorms too in the afternoon - so you may want to bring a small umbrella. Latest forecast from trusted website says high of 85 and humidity of 55 percent in the p.m. - not too bad.

Son went for a two-mile run here in NJ yesterday (hot and humid) in his combat boots - he was beat when he was finished. I think it spooked him a little bit about what was about to come.

Sent our 16-year old to Stanford for the summer session. She loves Stanford and loves the weather there as do I. Why does the best weather in the US have to be on top of an earthquake zone??

Have a safe trip Shogun!! And pay attention driving out of Newark Airport (if that's where you're flying into) - the signage is terrible. I've lived here on and off for almost fifty years - use the airport almost every week in my job and I still get confused sometimes. If you're heading straight to the West Point area - just keep looking for the signs that say 78 West and Garden State Parkway.

Actually we're flying into Stewart---saw that thunderstorm prediction---fun fun. A couple of my daughter's friends are headed to Stanford this fall -- a great school. I really enjoy their band when they come to play USC at the Coliseum--they are a talented (albeit wacky) bunch! Have a safe trip!!!!

Shogun:

If you haven't taken that route before, getting from Stewart to West Point should be a breeze down scenic highway 9W. People at the airport are really friendly and helpful.

Our family is flying into Stewart tomorrow about noon and staying in scenic Newburgh just down the road from Orange County Choppers, site of the popular reality TV series, American Chopper.

Hope you have a great flight.

We may be on the same flight?? We are going from Cincinnati to Stewart on delta 5107 (arriving at abt 12:30pm) maybe we'll see you! We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Ft Montgomery.

Shogun:

That's the same flight we're on. See you in Cincinatti.

We'll be the sleepy-eyed family that got up at 4am to catch the originating flight to Cinn.

Only the parents will need water - not the candidates. D returned from R-day practice. Reports no major changes over the past couple of years, and that they crammed them with water the whole time (90 degrees for practice day as well).

Best of luck to candidates, but I'll be thinking of you parents.

Aspen

We're flying all night, ontario to salt lake and then land in cinci at abt 6am. I'll keep my usc hat on and look for ya.

Kate:

Thanks---I'm sure we'll be seeing you next year!

Shogun:

Tough red-eye flight itinerary. Now I don't feel so bad about ours.

Hope you are able to catch a few Z's during the flight.

Will buy you a cup of coffee in Cinci.

Sounds good. See you there!

If anyone is flying delta from Austin to Cinci, or Cinci to Newark, drop me a line. I'll be arriving in Cinci at 1410, and leaving at 1450.
