Ok so within recent months I've become away of what the whole padding the resume for college apps means. However, I kinda fall into a sticky situation and I wanted to know what some CC theories were on it.

So Im a rising Junior at one of the best schools in the state of California (public that is) and I just transfered to this school after being in a crap-shoot school for 9th-10th grades. Now I know that a lot of colleges are going to applaud my decision to change because my reasons were strictly academic. So anyway, at my new school there are over 100 clubs! (It's amazing! I love it!). My first school had about 10 clubs (it was pathetic). So now I'm involved in all these new clubs that are amazing, but they were never offered at my first school. Due to the fact that I am quickly becoming the most active member in about 4 of the 6 or so clubs I'm in, I'd very much like to list these clubs on my college app. Would a college admission board think that I was simply "padding my resume" with all the clubs I became involved with my Junior year, or do you think they will realize that they were not offered at my first school (I do plan to make note of it in my app that they were not previously available). It kind of frustrates me because I know that padding can be a turn off to many admission boards, but I hardly feel in this case that it was my fault or "lack of consistency." You know?...theories or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

thanks! sounds great! idk how all to incorporate it into my essay (not sure what i’ll be writing about yet), but i do think that my decision to switch schools would be a good topic. good advice. thanks again guys :)

I would try to get a leadership position in at least one or two of those ec’s. Take a look at the application forms for the colleges to which you hope to apply. Different schools ask for the information differently, i.e. some schools want to know how many hours you spend in week participating in a particular activity. In those cases, if your participation is light, it will come out loud on clear on the application. Also one of the posters pointed out that you will be able to highlight things about your ec’s in your eassays. My daughter was able to take a difficult leadership position in an EC and use it has the topic for an essay.

great KeyofH that sounds pretty good to me. of course I wont be able to take a leadership position until next year (new school this year and all), but it’s entirely plausible then :)
