Hello, I am applying to the service academies, but I am having some trouble getting in shape for the PAE. Before somebody lectures me, I know that I am behind the ball on getting this done, but that is irrelevant at this point, so please don't say it. Anyway, I am having some difficulty with the flexed arm hang, standing long jump (at least getting a decent score on this and not the bare minimum), and the shuttle run. I have no arm strength at all, so does anyone have some advice on how to build it up quickly for the arm hang? Also, is there a certain technique I should be using for the long jump? Lastly, is there any way to knock some time off my shuttle run (I'm slow when it comes to sprinting, so I'd really prefer that it be a longer run, but I guess it won't be)? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do LOTS of pushups every night. If you watch TV, do them during commercials, and if you are doing homework, do a few sets in between subjects. I was horrible at the arm hang (I could do it for about 5 seconds) when I first started, and then I did tons of pushups. Two months later I was able to max out the arm hang on the PAE. Another good tip is, when you're doing the arm hang, don't think about it. Focus on something else, sing a song to yourself or something. Also, the only way to get better at running is to keep doing it. Do pyramid sprints (say, 2x25, 2x50, 2x100, 2x200, 2x100, 2x50, 2x25) and also do a lot of long runs. Practice the PAE often until you feel better at it. Its not impossible to get in shape. Good luck!

I would like to know what some other people scored on the PAE. I just read that you need a minimum of 125 points. I was concerned because I only had a rough score of 180 (thats what i expect to receive). I would like to try to do my weaker events over again, like the standing long jump (72 inches) and the basketball throw which I threw about 51 feet.

I don't really remember what I got; I scored really well, though. From what I've heard, unless your PAE score is REALLY low, it shouldn't matter that much.
