Panic! Panic! What will happen?

I haven't submitted the 2005 tax forms to Dartmouth yet because I didn't think it would be due until March along with the IDOC! I checked the website and Dartmouth wanted it on February 1st!!! Now I have to rush and make copies and send it out. However, I don't know what pages of the tax forms they want! The first two pages? The whole thing? Please help!

When colleges say they want 2005 or 2006 tax forms, which pages do they want you to copy for them?

all
They want the same thing- the forms and schedules that you submitted to the IRS. especially the signed signature page.
check with your school, but those are the forms that we sent.

Okay thanks. Do you (the parents) need to sign every page of the tax forms? Does the student need to sign? Do we need to send in the state tax forms (it's the last two pages of the 1040)? Does there need to be some sort of cover sheet or will the SSN and name be enough?

In our experience, the schools wanted the signed tax form and all W-2's, 1099, and 1098 forms as well. They wanted signed tax forms from both the parent(s) and student. AND if the student didn't file taxes they still wanted the W-2 and 1099 forms. No one wanted state tax forms. We sent the full return including all schedules.

no, the student only signs his/her own tax return IFF they file one; if the student does not have to file a tax return, print off the IDOC form and sign that stating that you do not have to file a tax return. The parents only sign on page 2 of the federal return.

No to the state tax return.

I'm still confused about the signing thing. Do you need a signature on every page? Or do you need it on one? Or does there even need to be a signature if there's the verification page?

There are signature lines ON the tax forms. On the 1040EZ the signature is at the bottom of the first and only page. For the 1040, the signature line is on the bottom of the second page. THAT is where you sign your returns. You will need to sign yours, and your parent(s) need to sign theirs. If you submitted your tax return electronically, you will need to print or copy that return and sign it on the signature line to submit to the colleges. Sign and use the date that you submitted your return. The IDOC verification page verifies that what you are submitting to THEM is accurate. It is not the signature you put on your tax returns. You do not sign tax returns on each page...only on the signature line.

"you will need to print or copy that return and sign it on the signature line to submit to the colleges."

So is that the "IRS e-file Signature Authorization" sheet or "Acknowledgment and General Information for Taxpayers Who File Returns Electronically" sheet?

If you efiled your return, go and print a copy of your return. It will look just like the return that folks send in the mail. Sign that printed out copy of your return where the signature goes and mail that in. Your parents will do the same. You need to use a pen and sign the printed out copy of your tax return on the signature line. NO..you do not need to send the efile signature authorization stuff. You need to print out the return and use a pen to sign it.

Ok thanks.
