Little background about me. I'm a freshly minted Finance undergrad from UNLV (Runnin' Rebs). I was recently accepted into Tulane's MFin program. Its crazy because I wasn't even considering an MFin, much less Tulane a month ago. I got an email from admissions May 4th stating that they would waive my app fee if I applied before the 14th, so I did. I decided to apply for the MFin instead of their MBA because I want to keep the prospect of a top 10 MBA on the table. So anyway, I did the interview on the 19th, and on the 24th I was admitted. Of course, I'm stoked, because Tulane's MFin is supposed to be dope (maybe not top-tier-Princeton-MIT dope, but dope none the less).

I've been a Hawaiian lost in the desert for a good 13 years so besides the intense googling I've done in the past week, I know nothing about New Orleans. Therefore, I'm guessing that the grad apartments at Papillon would be the safest housing option for me. I know Baby from Cash Money Records screams out "Uptown" all the time, and that makes me uneasy...because a mega-rich 45 year old man named "Baby" IS going to rob me, j/k. Really though, I don't want to wander into the projects after a night of redbull/vodkas.

Has anyone lived there before?

Can I go on a 5 mile jog at 11pm on a Tuesday and make it back with my shoes?

What is public transportation like? I am planning to leave my car at home for the year because its a hassle to drive it or ship it over to NO. I come from a city where people don't use public transpo unless they can't afford a car, so this could be a challenge for me. Can I live comfortably w/o it?

Are there single girls in these grad dorms? The more the better.

Are there good grocery stores, bars, and stores around the Papillon?

Are there any good golf courses around?

What are the better options? Anything with a roommate is not an option because I won't know anyone, therefore I'd be uncomfortable. There's too much riding on this one year master's program to be worried about the strange habits of my new roommate.

Any other MFin Summer '10 admits here?
