Oops, sorry missed the FA packages.

GA2012MOM : Yes , I am aware of that . But in my case, it is a little reverse thou. I got in Pitzer college with scholarship and grant package 45k/ yr. And if I go to University of California…, its cost 14k more than what I have to pay at Pitzer( 17k vs 31 k at UCs unless I commute, its about the same )

Thank you for your concern GAMOM2012. Yes… Med school cost is unbearable so is UG nowaday. Now I feel like i am lucky that I got rejection from that BA/MD combine med school I apllied earlier this year. It is extremely expensive for OOS students. Its cost 70k/ yr for 6 yrs without any FA. Even if I get accepted, I am not sure if I would be able to go without my parents selling their 2nd home they have been invested in for awhile .

Just a comment about the diversity issue at SUNY - both my kids went to New Paltz, and met lots of NY state residents who are actually the children of immigrants from all over the world. Sometimes the students themselves are the immigrants. This may be less true at Geneseo, which I think gets fewer students from the NYC metro area.

Haven’t heard of Siena, so I can’t compare, but Geneseo is an excellent school.

Is this unusual? Knowing that financial aid was going to play a major role in school selection for my son, he applied to a total 14 schools, 4 of them part of the SUNY system. I would have been happy if he had ended up at any one of those state options. Now I get it…private schools with big pricetags also have big endowments - it’s not lost on me. But here we are nearing the end of this process and without exception, the 4 SUNY schools would be the most expensive to attend. For 3 out of 4, it’s not even close. We can pay +/- $9K for him to attend a $59K private school…or we can pay $17K for him to attend a $23K public school. It just seems a little nuts to me!

Boy, this thread got hijacked.

OP, Bing and Geneseo are both great schools. Geneseo regularly gets shouts as a wonderful LAC public.

I have 2 kids. One went to OOS flagship, loved it. The other went small LAC, loved it.

You really needn’t feel guilty.
