My D has orientation at Steinhardt, NYU next week. Anyone attending this week's can help me with this question. Was it worth it to attend the Parent Orientation? Did any parents choose not to attend? I am going to be missing out if I don't? If you felt it was worth it, can you tell me some specifics.

Hi: My husband and I attended the CAS orientation at NYU on June 21 (we flew with our daughter from Calif.). I thought it was worth it. We were able to hear from the CAS freshman dean (great person!) and some representatives of Residential Life. We could ask questions and speak to reps individually.

We also were able to tour facilities (we looked at the new Palladium gym and the library) and visited the Health Center (fantastic facility). While I wouldn't say it was necessarily "substantive," the orientation day helped us garner a favoriable impression of the administrators and other NYU reps, including the students who were working that day. To me, that was worth it.

We also were able to spend time in the NYU neighborhood and could then talk with our daughter about her experiences with a bit more knowledge. In addition, when she had breaks, we could sometimes meet her on "campus" and talk with her about what she was doing--taking placement testing, meeting people, walking around the city, etc.
