According to the Common Application, I have to submit a letter of recommendation from one of my parents. My father is willing to write one for me, but he wants me to find the necessary prompts/specifications for the letter before he writes one up. I've scoured their website for hours and couldn't find any specific information on how to write that letter - am I missing something? Or are there no specific requirements for the letter? Can he just write one freely?

Are you homeschooled?

No - does it only apply to homeschooled students? On the Common App it said I can submit a teacher recommendation and a parent one.

A parent LOR seems very strange to me. Never heard of it. How could a parent LOR be taken seriously? My D only sent teacher and/or counselor LOR’s. I know some schools like Davidson want a peer LOR. I asked about being homeschooled because it’s the only way a parent could be a teacher as well.

The only time I can think of on the CApp, with the exception of homeschoolers, would be an invitation sent to a parent when a student selects Early Decision. A link is then sent to the parent for them to check several places saying they understand the ED process and commitment, they then esign and submit.

OP I would ask for help though CApp, unless you think this may be related to an ED parental form.

UR has has for a parental recommendation for quite some time. It’s part of the holistic process that UR employs for admissions.

While they are not required, I can assure that they are taken very seriously.

Spider05- my son has applied to UR but we did not send a LOR. Would you recommend us submitting one? His application has been complete for sometime. Thanks

My daughter applied ED in 2010 and was accepted. I never saw anything about a Parent LOR.

They aren’t required, but I know that if my child wanted to go somewhere and I had the option to help out by writing a rec. and offering a different perspective than that which was put forth by a teacher/counselor/coach, etc., I would.
