Parent Weekend

While I couldn’t be there for Parent’s Weekend, my sister made the trip from Dallas. She has assured me that he loves it and has settled in very nicely. They, too, took a trip to Target and spent lord knows how much. She said he’s gotten skinny so needed to fill his room with snacks! :-)

Not seeing him until Christmas didn’t seem so bad when I dropped him off in August. Now realizing it’s still more than two months away really stinks!

what a small world!

It was so good to be able to go see our D. She’s happy and has made a great group of friends whom we took out to eat Saturday night. She also seemed content to spend time with us which was a treat! We only spent $35 at Target before going to Sonic for lunch - her choice.

Seemed like everyone we met over the weekend was from CA or Chicago besides her roommate and one friend from FL.

Did anyone go to the speaker sessions on Friday? I went to the jazz one… given by music professor Jamie McBride, who played piano accompanied by a student drummer. It was fascinating and really entertaining!! (cyclonehome, everyone there was from NY or NJ!!)

Actually it is Jessie McBride, and he is great, not only as a musician but also with students. When my kids were in middle school and high school they attended a summer “brain camp” run by the Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning, and Jessie taught a jazz appreciation class there. So imagine my D’s surprise when he became an instructor at Tulane.

Had an awesome weekend!!! I have never seen my son sooooo happy! Other than his side of the room being “lived in” (apparently it was worse before parent weekend), he is doing all he needs too - especially laundry - shocker! Loved catching up w/jozuko on the plane, went on a swamp tour Fri. while s was in class - Dr. Wagner’s swamp tour - I would highly recommend it! Went to Le Petite Grocery for dinner - excellent. Saw the football game which turned out to be very exciting. Went to the Blind Pelican - great place to eat and hang out on St. Charles. Went to Camilla’s Grille - decent sized line but worth the wait. Spent over $300 at Costco - got my s a TV after he complained that everyone on his floor has one except him - holidays came early for him! Great meeting his friends + going out w/his roommate and his parents! Hurricane was a big bust + got home w/no problems! I will keep my fingers crossed that things will continue to move in such a positive direction!

I will have to remember to refer to these postings next year when school starts and parents are so nervous about their kids having trouble adjusting in the first week. It is really great that they are all doing so well.

Parents Weekend was great! D met us at The Blind Pelican after her last class on Friday. I kept watching every street car, waiting for her to step off!

Our D has also had bouts of homesickness. She realizes that it takes time and effort to make friends, and to feel comfortable with all the changes. I think she felt like she should have come home for fall break, but now she seems to be enjoying the long weekend.

Oh, and Bloomy, I don’t have enough posts to send you a message, but D has spent time hanging out with your S. She said he is very nice, and fun to hang out with. She admitted they did make fun of us a little regarding CC, lol

That is so funny - my S + H make fun of me often regarding CC but at the same time they listen to any good tips I get…

btw - we love the Blind Pelican!
