I've been amused by the reaction to the initial comments in this thread. And I 've given some serious thought to what's been written. I've found the postings and the message boards very helpful for support and understanding of the process. Our local West Point liaison person is great but new to the role. The biggest problem is USMA itself. I've found our Admissions Officer to be uncommunicative and confusing and, worst of all, disheartening to my son. My son got off the phone with the regional admissions officer yesterday and my son couldn't really tell me what was said. The officer was disjointed and disorganized. My son could barely tell why he had called - but he referenced that fact that my son's folder had gone to the Admissions Board, asked if he was interested in one of the prep schools, made some reference to the National Waiting List, etc. etc. But my son couldn't tell whether a decision had been made or if the admissions officer was just presenting what the options were if he weren't appointed, etc. Maybe West Point should hire some of the Moms on this board to be admissions officers - they'd do a helluva better job than the current one we have. But thank G-d he's not in Iraq putting soldiers at risk.

I know KateLewis, i was just kidding. But i wasnt kidding about the "Go Navy" part

This is my first post on CC. I been lurking for quite awhile and have learned so much.
My son is a West Point Plebe (Hi, JM) and I'm still here because I have another son on deck. Information about WP is slim and the best place to get it is Prospective-Net.
Information doesn't abound when your child gets to WP, as Plebes are the lowest on the totem pole and just do what they're told. I have emailed him info gleaned from other places that he had no idea about. All candidates to SA should dig deep and be really sure that they want to go.

Wise parents raise children to be independent, responsible, resilient, strong, intrepid, empathetic, loving, good citizens, etc. Calling the calculus teacher for homework assignments is somewhat strange behavior and I don't think parents on this forum do that sort of thing. Anyway, that information would be in the course syllabus and our high school has it posted on each teacher's web page, along with grades.

As far as I-day is concerned, my daughter will flying to USNA with other kids from California. It's a special time for them. I'll probably be in church praying that she makes it through Plebe Summer...

wstcoastmom, I know I should be asking you this on the other thread, but since I'm here I'll go ahead anyway. Will your daughter be playing a sport at USNA? Does she know anyone else that's going from California? I have a friend and a cousin from Virginia already at the Academy and I like the idea that I already know people there. It would make all those "dark days" a little easier to manage.

Navgirl,
