thks everybody

Your GPA and class rank are stellar. I think your SAT is lacking for many of the schools which you have listed.

In my opinion your reaches would be: UVA, Washington University, UC Berkeley, W&M, Cornell and probably U Michigan.

I really can't comment on the rest as I'm not that familiar with them. I live in Virginia and UVA and W&M are very difficulty for out of state applicants.

Sorry I can't be of more help. It's difficult because of the discrepancy between your academic performance and your test scores. Seems to be so much of a gap. Best of Luck.

Sonic Pwr - Top 2% of your class and a 4.0 unweighted GPA? You've got my attention! Like every parent on this board I'd love to see you achieve your academic dream. But it's hard to comment until some gaps are filled in. W&M instate seems doable, but OOS is tremendous reach (if my DD's experience is any indication.) About the Major --- Wouldn't Penn be the best choice for UG business? Does your inquiry about retaking the Chemistry SAT II mean you're not fully committed to an UG major in Business?

wats ur DD's experience?
i took Penn off my list because everyone was saying too much of a reach
y im not sure if i should try to improve my SAT CHem score, i forgot all my chem from last yr so is it worth it to take it again?
y where to apply ED or EA because i also need good financial aid?
finally which other schools should i apply to as safties or matches?
ur help is very much appreciated

You may want to look at schools that are SAT optional. (In case your score does not come up as much as you want it to.)

I'm sorry to say, I wouldn't consider UCSD a safety. The reason I say that is that they can be capricious with their decisions, especially if you do not have "adversity" in your background or some special talent. UCSD is also very focused on extracurriculars. While yours are fine for many schools, they are not outstanding. I would put UCSD in the match pile - very good chance, but not a safety. On the other hand, schools like UCSB and UCDavis WOULD probably fall in the "safety" range for you.

I'd also call U Michigan a match, especially if you apply early (i.e. SOON!)

UVA, WUSTL, Berkeley, W&M and Cornell are all reachy unfortunately.

Carnegie Mellon (Business) and NYU good matches. Boston U may be a safety BUT they are not good with financial aid so if that is important, you need another safety that is also a financial safety. UCD and UCSB would fall in that category.

I agree with SBmom: If I were you, I'd also check out some schools where submitting SATs are optional because your SAT I scores don't match your academic achievements. You can find a list of possiblities at www.fairtest.org. There are some great schools there, especially if you'd consider an LAC.

hows American University
y which other business schools with good financial aid should i apply to???

I think American would be a match for you.

It might not be a bad idea for you to check the profiles of the classes of 2009 of the schools you are interested in to see if your SAT scores fall in the range -- just to give you some idea of where you might stand. Your academic achievements are awesome....I just don't know if that alone is enough to get you into the more selective schools.

COlumbiaMom where do u live in VA? Northern area? Just curious I live in VA too

Sonic Pwr - I think most would agree that it's considerably easier to be accepted to an instate public university, and considerably cheaper to attend an instate public also. But to keep the discussion simple, let's assume you will be an out of state student. It is often much more difficult to gain acceptance to a public university as an out of state student. I'm not saying don't try, but rather to be aware that applicants with considerably better stats have been wait listed at W&M. As to the question of retaking the Chemistry SAT II, I can't think of any reason to do this. The hard sciences are not an important part of the UG Business curriculum, even at a technically oriented university like Carnegie Mellon.

Yes, I do live in Northern VA -- Oakton. How about you?

I would not put time in on a retake of the SAT II. Focus on the SAT I and/or the ACT. I think it's more important to put your time or effort there.

"where to apply ED or EA because i also need good financial aid?"

Don't apply anywhere ED. You need the ability to compare aid offers, which can vary considerably even for need-based aid. For instance, colleges may give you the same amount of aid, but differ greatly in terms of how much loans your aid packages consist of.

If you have great financial need, that will hurt you at many colleges that are not need-blind when it comes to admission. Keep that in mind when you apply because your best chances of getting great aid will be from colleges offering excellent merit aid plus need-based aid and where your stats are in at least the top 25% of their applicant pool.

Check out the stats for American U. My son got a full merit scholarship there with better SAT scores than you, but your rank and GPA is a bit higher than his was. It was a Presidential Scholarship. It may even tell you on the website what the criteria is. He didn't apply for it; it came with his acceptance.

University of Delaware should be a safety and the more I think about it, American would most probably be a safety, too.

thank you appreciate it

i prefer a more diverse school
delaware is 84% white
i prefer like 65% maximum of 1 minority
do u knw any business schools that are diverse

What state do you live in? Are you an URM?

live in california
URM???
