OK so I got accepted to UMich and to the honors program and case western with a 21k a year presiden't scholarship. Both are great schools and all, but I sent in my enrollment deposit to Michigan cus that's where I want to go. My parents and I visited yesterday, and they thought it was ok. I already told them that this is the school I want to go to, but they still want to visit Case. I don't want to go to Case, and visiting it uses up an entire day that I could put to better use. When I told them that I didn't wanna go to case, they told me that they wanted to because they're sick of not being able to go anywhere because I always spend my time doing homework. ??? I keep telling them that I want to go to Michigan, but they don't listen. All they tell me is, it's not your decision. We are going to case and that's final! (We've already been to case, and I personally prefer Michigan)
HELP!!!

I hear your pain. Try talking with your parents.

the last time i did that they just started yelling at me.

there's a new one for me. Let me try it out:

" I'm sick of not being able to go anywhere because you're always doing homework!!!!!! "

no, that doesn't feel right at all. Are you sure you got that part right?

I would personally just go along with the trip, but thats only because it gets me out of school for the day :-D

just go, it wont kill you
Then later after pleasing em, say u want UMich more...

Fordgt,

I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. It sounds like your parents are feeling the stress of this process. Is there a considerable difference in cost to them between the two? If Michigan is more, maybe you could argue rationally how you all can deal with this difference in cost. (Summer, wiinter break jobs, etc. )If cost is not the issue, then maybe your parents are caught up on the prestige of Case's name. (Not that Michigan is anything to sneeze at). Write some concrete differences between the two that you are basing your decision on. If they see that you are approaching this in a mature way, and have really considered all the factors, then maybe they'll ease up. If you really haven't done that kind of comparison to come to your conclusion, then maybe you need to take a second look at Case, and not make this a battle of wills with your parents. Just going to see the school will probably solidify your decision to go to Case, or it will strengthen your argument as to why it's not a good match.

Best of luck with your decision.

I hear your pain, i really do...my parents put so much pressure, at a point where i feel like really upset. You need to talk to you parents and explain them how you feel and just visit, because you have nothing to loose...Once you go there just act like your digusted by this school and hopefully everything works out for him

Let your parents know that they are screwing over your happiness and future. Get summer jobs. Try work-study. Let them know that you will do everything possible to make up for the cost difference.

My parents are doing this now too. I want to go to Boston college, and i got in to boston college. I am going to boston college.

Unfortunately, they are in denial. They want me to go to CMU. They are seriously obsessed with it, just because my dad went there. They keep trying to drag me down there, and visit and everything. It's not like i haven't seen it, i grew up in pittsburgh! I don't even like science! Gah, it's driving me nuts.

Sorry, that wasn't helpful at all. I have the same problem as you.

Well, if all you have to do is visit anyhow, just go for it. I know people who went to some schools because they loved the visit so much.

One day out of your life is not too much to ask. Then go where you want if possible.

Lol, you know what you can do. Go show your parents the USNEWS rankings (I know the rankings don't mean anything), and show them how much higher UMich is than Case.

Why can't you just go visit it?

All jokes from before aside, you should just go with your parents to visit Case. There really is no bad scenario that could come out of visiting. You may end up loving Case, and the whole problem with your parents is solved. Otherwise, your parents will know that they have done all they can to show what Case has to offer, and i'll bet they'll be fine with Michigan at that point.

I'm not even saying to go to Case with a positive of accepting attitude. Be as skeptical as you'd like about it, but your parents cannot say that you didn't give it a chance. Plus, taking a day to walk around what i think is a pretty nice place really won't be so bad.

You know, parents are the same, no matter time nor place
They don't understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes
So tell you other kids all across the land
There's no need to argue, parents just don't understand

I remember one year, my mom took me school shoppin'
It was me, my brother, my mom, oh my pop,
And my little sister all hopped in the car
We headed downtown to the Gallery Mall

My mom started buggin' with the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothin' at first, I just turned up my nose
She said, "What's wrong, the shirt costs twenty dollars."
I said, "Mom, This shirt is plaid, with a butterfly collar.

The next half hour was the same old thing
My mother buyin' me clothes from 1963
And then she lost her mind and did the ultimate
I asked her for Adidas, and she bought me Zips!

I said, "Mom, what are you doin'? You'll ruin my rep."
She said, "You're only 16, you don't have a rep yet."
I said, "Mom, let's put these clothes back, please."
She said, "No. You go to school to learn, not for a fashion show."

I said, "This isn't shinin' armor, c'mon mom, I'm not bousers.
Mom, please put back the bell bottom, Brady Bunch trousers.
But if you don't want to I can live with that, but,
You've gotta put back the double-knit, reversable slacks"

She wasn't with it, everything stayed the same
Inevitably, the first day of school came
I thought I could get over, I tried to play sick
But my mom said, "No, no way, Uh-uh. Forget it."

There was nothin' I could do. I tried to relax
I got dressed up in those ancient artifax
And when I walked in to school, it was just as I thought
The kids were crackin' up, laughin' at the clothes mom bought

And those who weren't laughin' still had a ball
'Cuz they were pointing and whistling as I walked down the hall
I got home and told my mom how my day went
She said, "If they were laughin' you don't need 'em, cuz they're not good friends."

For the next six hours I tried to explain to my mom
That I was gonna have to go to just about 200 more times
They didn't speak, I said, I want to plead my case
So tell you other kids all across the land
There's no need to argue, parents just don't understand

Ok. Here's the situation. My parents went away on a week's vacation
And, they left the keys to the brand new Porsche
Do they mind? Mmm, well, of course not!
I'll just take it for a little spin, and maybe show it off to a couple of
friends
I'll just cruise it 'round the neighborhood
Well, maybe I shouldn't. Yeah! Of course I should!

Pay attention, here's the thick of the plot
I pulled up to the corner at the end of my block
And that's when I saw this beautiful girly-girl walkin'
I picked up my car phone to perpatrate like I was talkin'

You shoulda seen this girls bodily demensions
I honked my horn, just to get her attention
She said, "Was that for me?" I said, "Yeah." She said, "Why?"
I said, "Come on and take a ride with a hell of a guy."

She said, "How do I know you're not sick.
You could be some deranged lunatic."
I said, "Come on, toots. My name is the Prince.
Besides, would a lunatic have a Porsche like this?"

She agreed, and we were on our way
She was lookin' very good, so I was I, I must say, WORD!
We hit McDonalds, pulled up to the driveway
We ordered two Big Macs, and two large fries and Cokes

She kicked her shoes off onto the floor
She said, "Drive fast, speed turns me on."
She put her hand on my knee, I put my foot on the gas
We almost got whiplash, we took off so fast

The sun roof was open, the music was high
And this girl's hand was thouroughly moving up my thigh
She had opened up three buttons on her shirt so far
I guess that's why I didn't notice that police car

We're doin' ninety in my mom's new Porsche
And to make this long story short, short
When the cop pulled me over, I was scared as hell
I said, "I don't have a license, but I drive very well, officer!"

I almost had a heart-attack that day
Come to find out the girl was a 12 year old runaway!
I was arrested, the car was impounded
There was no way for me to avoid being grounded

My parents had to come off from vacation and get me
I'd rather be in jail, than to have my father hit me
My parents walked in and I got my grip
I said, "Uh...mom, dad...How was your trip?!"

They didn't speak, I said, "I wanna play my case."
But my father just shoved me in the car by my face
That was a hard ride home, I don't know how I survived it
They took turns..one would beat me while the other was drivin'!

I can't believe it! I just made a mistake
Well, parents are the same, no matter time nor place
So tell you other kids all across the land
Take it from me, parents just don't understand

Thanks Will Smith.

Meh, take a day out of your life and go visit. Worst case, you use a miniscule fraction of your life to appease your parents and nothing changes.

all good advice...I'm a michigan resident btw so michigan is still significantly cheaper even with case's scholarship

Just visit Case, Cleveland is a pretty cool city.
