Parents of Chapman 2025

As a Chapman parent am very concerned.Do /Should colleges do background checks on parents? My daughter is roommates with a student whose parent is being accused of some serious stuff . There’s posts about this person on social media and forums. What can I do about this?

What exactly is your concern? How do you think your child will be affected by the actions of her roommate’s relative?

I assume many college students have parents, siblings, or other relatives who are incarcerated or have been accused of criminal activity or otherwise have poor reputations. Students are not turned away based on the behavior of their relatives, so a college would have no reason to investigate them.

Does this relate to some fraud in the college application or financial aid paperwork? Or threats against the school or students? Those are the only things I can think of that would be something the college would investigate and then only if something alerted them to a potential issue. In other words, a school wouldn’t use its limited resources to do detective work on parents at random.

What is it you are thinking a college should be doing and for what purpose?

Try child sex tourism .

Unless the student has indicated they plan to get into the family business, one would assume they’re as disgusted by the allegations as you are.

While things are still at the accusation/allegation level, I don’t expect that a college would take any action regarding a student who is not involved.

nothing. as long as that parent isn’t in your child’s household not much to say about it. If the person is in your student’s home (or living there like at Sarah Lawrence college) Id be more concerned.

and what are you basing these claims on? rumors? posts on social media? that seems unfounded and wouldn’t want to destroy relationship between your student and roommate
