Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

325: Congrats on the Chicago acceptance! My nephew is in his junior year at Chicago, and he loves the challenging academics and intellectual atmosphere. Contrary to reputation, he’s also having a lot of fun.

Emmybet: Enjoy the full house!

OWM: Have a wonderful time waltzing with your son tomorrow night, and celebrating your grandson’s birthday on Sunday.

Congratulations 325- What great news. I’m from Chi-town (well, the suburbs) and look for any opportunity to return for a visit. Alas, even though S2 visited both NW and U Chicago twice at my gentle urging, he was not inspired to apply to either. The boy is a doll, but yet he didn’t care that mom wanted some good excuses to re-visit Lou Malnatti’s pizza again. Sigh!

Sorry about the loss of $$! Hey, doesn’t the universe understand we need to find $$ for tuition payments?

I thought (rumors!) that the mail might bring some news from one of S2’s colleges that only notify by mail. But nope! Still waiting.

kidderny–WL is better than deny. But also a little unsettling. I mean, as if there weren’t enough variables to juggle in the final decision.

S2 is facing a massive week of exams and big papers due as its the last week before spring break and all this stuff seems to pile up. He’s stressed (5 APs) and suggested that he simply not check any online decisions or open any mail for the next week in order to put all college anxiety away and concentrate on his work.

But what about my anxiety? LOL.

First acceptance this afternoon! So relieved (she WILL go to college next fall), and at a school where she (guitarist’s sis) can play two sports, plus some merit money. And not expecting to hear until 3/30 so a nice surprise.

Feeling grumpy all day about the stolen money for some of you… feeds into my general people are evil disposition (why couldn’t someone honest have found that wallet left at the store? – there are so many of us out there)! My sympathies for having to deal with that mess.

Congrats for the other acceptances! And so happy about healthy grandbabies!

325… Congrats on Chicago!

Glad to see they kept to their release schedule.

Guitarist’s Mom: Congratulations on the first acceptance! It’s sounds like a great fit for your daughter.

Yes, guitarist’s mom, don’t you love that feeling that they actually have a college to go to in September, lol? Congrats!

Re Dogs and money…

;)

fogfog - ^ how funny!

guitarist’s mom - Congratulations! The first acceptance is a good reason to celebrate!

^^^ LOL as a dog lover, I think that’s pretty funny! Maybe that’s the tip on top of dog waste removal person’s normal wages?

Yes, it is nice to know a school that we think would be a great fit thinks so too! (As I mentioned earlier, I was worried there were NO safeties on her list, so I can relax and be happy this weekend, even if the other 8 are rejections)! :)

Lol, guitarist’s mom, about the 8 rejections! :)

325: CONGRATULATIONS on Chicago! Very happy for you!

Holliesue, my D (who keeps up on some of the goings-on here that I mention) wants to know how your mailbox is holding up.

EmmyBet, it must feel like a pajama party at your house!

Just exhausted! Like many of you, I want desperately for this to be over, and I know the end is in sight. I plan to spend tomorrow is bed. All day. With magazines and a good book. (Ok, and my crackberry so I can stay in touch with you guys).

It’s my 2-3 times a year version of going to a spa. I don’t want to go anywhere, don’t want to see anyone, just want to retreat to the familiar coziness of my own quiet room and calm my frayed nerves.

Sb says she’s feeling much better and will bake pumpkin bread to serve me in bed with tea. Heaven!

Good news from UChicago for Scoutson! His acceptance letter is online, but there’s a message that they’re still working on his financial aid package. Since we don’t know that, we’re not sure how excited to get. Such an amazing school!
There were also echoes of anguish about the rejection from the Cambridge school that shall not be named (if these guys want me…). But I’m sure he will stop looking in that rearview mirror soon.
I appreciate so much sharing this here, and I am so engrossed by all that is happening. I am not a fast enough typist to do much more than send out generalized congratulations for the good things and sympathy for the rotten breaks. I’m always hoping for comforting news to come for EmmyBet’s JDs, and looking forward to waltzing by proxy this weekend with OWM.

Congrats, Scoutsmom! Maybe we’ll see you there next fall.

mosb - glad sb feels better. A day in bed sounds like something that many of us need.

scoutsmom - Hurray for Scoutson! I hope that the acceptance will be followed by a great FA offer.

mosb- tell your d that we appreciate her interest! My dh has it temporarily lashed to a metal pole (that is placed there permanently to prevent teenagers from bashing the mailbox…believe it or not it is an unfortunate favorite pastime out here in the country)…the mailbox is still holding up fine!!! Fortunately we are really only awaiting news on whether or not D got into the honors program at one of her top two choices…so not too many crucial envelopes left to receive!
oh and MOSB- enjoy your day off!! sounds heavenly!

Great to hear about acceptances in the homes of Guitaristsmom and scoutsmom. Great accomplishments. Hooray!

Congratulations to scoutsmom!

Congrats to Scoutson!

congrats scoutsmom…and hoping that it is a great FA package!

I want to major in engineering in college and i have been accepted in to NEU, DREXEL, RPI, but i did not apply to columbia and it is my favorite school of them all.

should i go to one of the before mentioned engineering schools, or go to Hofstra or Arcadia and do the Columbia Combined 3-2 plan with columbia to gain guarunteed admission to Columbia SEAS.

is it worth the risk of going to a mediocre school to gain a degree from Columbia SEAS?
is it worth giving up the “college experience” to get a mechanical engineering degree.

does going to columbia SEAS give me a better shot at grad school than NEU?

Thanks!,
will the other kids look down upon me for going to an easy school and then transferring, and will this affect my chances of making friends?

I have heard that the other kids will look down upon transfer students.

Do the Columbia College kids look down upon the kids in SEAS?

is it worth going if my chances of making friends are not good?
