Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Yay on the UC acceptances!

Well my son ended up buying a ticket to the swim banquet on the 30th-good for him!

Glad SB is feeling better. :)

Nothing worse than a stolen wallet-well I guess there are but it is a royal pain-so sorry about that.

Wow, I miss a few hours and have six pages to catch up on? Unbelievable!

Congratulations to 325 and scoutsmom on the UChicago acceptances. Sorry about the waitlist K - hopefully it doesn’t prolong the agony.

Pepper - sounds like you have a good plan - you just need a little bit of help from S  It’s great that he’s going to the swim banquet - sometimes, I feel like it’s crazy to wait at the computer at 5pm, on pins and needles for these decisions. Not sure what D is going to be doing on the 30th - I am sure she’ll have practice scheduled for her spring sport - so she’ll check when she’s ready…

owm - have a good time at the waltz and the birthday party! Should be a fun weekend for you - lots of good memories.

mosb - thanks for the wishes. Am looking forward to getting home and giving both my kids a big hug. It’s been a good business trip - but long…

okay guys…I hate to say I am excited about this but…I just made senior member status on CC by getting over 1000 posts…I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that I spend so much time here…my d tells me I need to get a life…

^^^^^ Congrats. You DO have a life- it’s just virtual. ;)

Thanks for all the understanding. My D is actually buoyed that they did not reject her outright. Her stats are not outstanding (I post on the 3.0 to 3.3 thread  ) so the fact that her high reach is a possibility (albeit slim) was kinda nice. My best guess is that she WILL end up at one of the SUNYs. She says she would be interested in visiting to really check out the program she is considering, but does not want to seem pushy now that she is WLed. It’s only 40 minutes away and she has never officially been on a tour- just visited for tech camp when she was younger. We’ll see.
Hurray for the Chicago acceptances!!! And to guitaristS for the first “fat” envelope. Hope there are many more.

@325 and scouts mom: Congrats on uChicago! Hope my D and your S’s & D’s all meet there next year (if that’s what they want). D just found out she’s a University Scholar (one email = $5k/year. Cool!) after EA acceptance, but is not confirming until her other schools come in…

Grats to guitar and scout and 325! (and anyone else… it’s hard to keep up)

And naturally to Holliesue for her millennial accomplishment ;)

Congrats on acceptances to all.

Over here we got good news too= we received a letter from one school with a certain amount of merit aid indicated. Then, online today, it said she got a lot more merit aid. ALso, another school sent us a revised financial aid statement with an additional amount given as an extra.

We will really have to think a lot about whether we will spend the GI bill now or wait for law school and some of younger d’s college.

Congrats to all the acceptances this week.

S received a large envelope yesterday from a college he applied to, but low on his list. And it was a viewbook that said “So you want to be an Engineer”??? Actually he is planning on psych I think, never interested in Engineering. I am thinking that the company that does all these mailings had some major issue if y’all are receiving viewbooks as seniors.

My old dog ate 2/3 of a $50 bill. The bank refused to replace it as it was more than half gone. Something about the ink being veg based I think. Current dog eats socks- its a big issue as he eats them whole, he’s been lucky so far.

My saying for the day - when the tough get going, the tough get baking. Doing way too much cooking and baking here. I am touring the Ina Garter books.

Sounds like we might have to have the CC Class of 2011 moms’ weekend in Chicago! Congrats to all the acceptances. I have a soft spot in my heart for scoutson who suffered our same anguish on Monday night.

Birthday presents are all wrapped. Party theme is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Our son will drill through fruit on Sunday to decorate the table. Daughter-in-law is making a cake with red icing to be the caterpillar’s head–green cupcakes to make the body. Butterfuly crackers for snacks.

But first–the ball. Tomorrow morning, Zumba, shopping for shoes for older son, hair appointment for me. Staggering showers for everyone in the afternoon. Pictures at 5:05 Reception at 6, dinner at 7, announcement of two top scholars at 8:30, waltzing at 9, DJ takes over at 9:03. (It’s a short waltz!)

Tonight our son is at a bonfire at the home of last year’s top Cotillion male scholar (home on spring break) along with several other candidates and the very brightest kids of this year’s class and last. They are enjoying the full moon and a nice (nearly) spring evening.

My mother is certain that he will win the top prize tomorrow night. She can’t imagine any of the other nine boys be “better” than her grandson. I have begged her not to mention that to him. The week has been full of enough “expectations” already.

congrats on the Chicago news, fat envelopes, merit money and senior cc status
have a wonderful weekend owm
glad sb is well; enjoy the “spa” day mosb
D and I are out of town this weekend at Ds sport event; fun, but hoping that DH calls if there is any intersting mail; he has not been active in this process and has no idea what is going on!
night all - what a busy few weeks we have ahead of us!

Scoutsmom and son - congrats on Chicago!

Congrats on the Chicago acceptances. D so wants her good friend to be accepted so that they will be in the same city. She hasn’t heard from him over spring break…hope he’s at least received some good news.

The “Spa” day - I beat you to it! This past week, I was so overwhelmed with all of several different issues - including the college wait/decision - I stayed home in my flannel jammies, listened to the pounding rain, and sat in bed with stacks of magazines, a journal, and nice hot tea. It WAS heaven! Of course it was followed by two 12 hour work days :frowning:
But today is the first day of spring break and S received notice of being a finalist for a major scholarship and one of his top schools. yay! That means at this point there are three schools left in the running, not counting the two important ones he will hear from next week. Looking forward to the waiting being over!
And owm - just thinking of you at your waltz will make my day tomorrow!!
Congrats to all with good news and pats on the back to those with struggles.
Still praying for Japan. If anyone would like to know of direct Japanese sources for donation, pm me, and I can direct you to some accounts there set up by international schools. Emmy - I think of you every day and am so glad your girls have you!
Night night

Just spent quite a few minutes attempting to catch up…

cpt–SO sorry about the wallet and yes, especially a PITA and scary about the id’s

to those with good news, and that includes the WL --YAY

EB those girls are lucky to be with you during this challenging time

D1 is 7 for 7, got her last acceptance (one I thought was a bit iffy for her) today with an unexpectedly generous finaid pkg. Have to wait (aren’t we all tired of WAITING?!) for all the $awards next few weeks and then finally, finally decision time will be here which will have it’s own angst I am sure!

I swear, I will never understand Financial Aid offices! I have had to file all of the “Special Circumstances” paperwork with our FA apps. Our 2010 taxes show us making a substantial income last year. The reality is that my H has been unemployed for 18 months and counting. Last year’s income was severance and the sale of some stock to cover our living expenses above his unemployment. This year, the income for our family of 5 will be 1/4 of what it was last year. I have filed the special circumstances paperwork with 5 out of the 6 school S applied to. The 6th school is his safety, the one in-state school he applied to. I’ve been waiting for them to put their required form online and it hasn’t shown up yet. I called to ask when it will be available and was told by one person that it wouldn’t be up until sometime in May. A 2nd person told me maybe sometime in April. Either way, they won’t get around to reviewing them until June. Therefore, S would have to commit to the school without knowing whether or not he can actually afford it. The killer part is, he could potentially go there tuition free because we are low income (the school currently offers the Cougar Promise to in-state, low income students). When I suggested that their system seems flawed, I was told that they aren’t required to consider special circumstances - the do it “as a courtesy”. The woman seemed shocked when I told her that the FA from the other schools had already accepted our paperwork and their offers would be based on the SC numbers. I am sooooo ready to be done with all this nonsense!

Gosh, what a nightmare TexasMOm. Hope you get some very good financial aid.

Good Morning all ☼☼☼
**Happy Saturday **

Congrats to all that received great news :)

Hugs to all with not so good news, count us in :(

Hurray for all the great FA news

Idinct~I am with you lets cook :)

Texmom~Sorry for the frustation, feel free to vent here…Hoping it will get resolved soon;)

To all that think this is rough, try doing this two years in a row.
We have been in college mode for the past 3 years, the only good point was that my kids looked at pretty much the same schools except for a couple, and that one is an athlete (put a spin on things)

S1 is back to school and has a bad case of mono. Good thing they have a very good health center and a teaching hospital there (some to add to that spreadsheet for S2…)
He will skype us today to discuss next year courses. To put things in perspective this is exactly where we will be next year  selecting courses for sophomore year!

Stay

Welcome TeresaMom
Hoping that the #6 school will review your paperwork in a timely manner so your student can decide between that school and others in the running.

All–its a Supermoom weekend. Last night was lovely–tonight should be spectacular…So look for it ;)

So how is everyone doing on their diet for graduation? I am far behind…if ya know what I mean…and can partly blame those Girl Scouts haha

**Saturday’s Countdown for the “reachy” schools is:

Stanford - 6 days to go. Less than a week (if they are early like last year).

Vanderbilt - 4 days to decision mailing day (snail mail only - probably 6 or 7 to hit your mailbox)

The big “H” and other ivys - 11 days to go based on the March 30th at 5 PM announcement date and time.

March 31st schools - 12 days to go. Less than 2 weeks of waiting.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.** :)

Diet? Who said diet, lol?
Olderwisermom ~ Have fun tonight at the ball! :)
